Back to school

I just finished signing up for an on-line course at Indiana State University. It’s a library science course called “School & Public Library Administration.” I would rather have taken one on material acquisition or cataloguing and cataloguing management. While I sometimes help out a little with what books to get, acquisitions isn’t really one of my responsibilities, and the odds of me Continue reading

Rearranging books

It all started on Friday. I decided that the bookshelf next to my desk was too cluttered, so I spent the morning (early morning, I might add because Ian woke me up early) cleaning and reorganizing it. Then I thought about the rest of the living room, which is always quite messy because I have far too many hobbies. The fact that our books were in no particular order has been bothering me Continue reading

Ah, my life

Sometimes I don’t realize just how nutsy my life is until I start telling people about everything going on. Recently, we had a local author fair at the library with seven authors. Once the number of patrons dropped off and the authors were sitting around chatting, we came up with the idea that it’d be neat to have a booth during the Strassenfest here in Jasper in August. Since I Continue reading

Curl up with a good book!

I have made yet another display for the library. This one’s for December/January and is a winter-themed one. I actually came up with the idea several months ago, but it had to be put on the back burner for obvious reasons and because of not having much time to work ahead on such projects. At any rate, I have pictures, and while these were taken with the phone rather than a real camera, Continue reading

Well crap

All right, my sinuses have been kicking my ass for the past couple weeks. First it started out with fatigue and some scary lymph node activity (seriously, who put lymph nodes so close to the breasts? Find a lump in that area and it’s cause for a good week’s worth of panic–which is pretty much exactly what I did), and now it’s converted to the typical headaches/scratchy throat/ Continue reading

Paper shuriken

It was fairly slow this afternoon at work, so I decided to get ahead with my NaNoWriMo projects for the write-ins we’ll (I’ll) be hosting at the library. I’ve already decided to have a different writing activity each week, and so far, I’ve got three different writing activities that I want to do. I don’t have any particular order to the activities yet, so I’ll have to work on which one to Continue reading

Mural mayhem

Because the library is closed both today and tomorrow, Sandy and I decided that it was the perfect opportunity to get some work done on the murals we’re painting to label certain sections of literature. It’s sooooo much easier to get work done when we aren’t having to stop and help patrons or answer the phone or fix the computers. Because the library was closed today, we got Continue reading

Whole lot o’ cataloguin’

Well, it’s my day off (the only one for the next eight days–hooray for extra shifts ’cause that means extra moola!), so of course, what do I do? Library stuff. I’ve spent the better part of the day working on HoL, the Home On-line Library that Ian programmed for me so I can inventory all our stuff. I’m pretty sure that I’ve gotten all the DVDs, though I might not have Sword in the Continue reading

Strange hobbies

Soon at the library, we’ll be hiring three new pages. One of those positions will be the position I’m vacating come May when I become full-time. I was thinking about how long it’ll take to train them and how their training might go more smoothly if they had some handy reference cheat-sheets to carry around so that they will feel more confident about their new jobs. Therefore, as librarianship Continue reading

The new job

Yay! I have employment! Sort of… It’s part-time as in fifteen hours a week (which isn’t very much, but it’s a start, right?) at around minimum wage (not knowing what minimum wage is right now, I can’t be sure, but I’m guessing it’s around that; bad me for not looking it up) with really no benefits to speak of, but it’s work! And where is this work? Why, at the library! Yay!!! The Continue reading
