The new job

Yay! I have employment! Sort of… It’s part-time as in fifteen hours a week (which isn’t very much, but it’s a start, right?) at around minimum wage (not knowing what minimum wage is right now, I can’t be sure, but I’m guessing it’s around that; bad me for not looking it up) with really no benefits to speak of, but it’s work! And where is this work? Why, at the library! Yay!!! The funny thing is that as I was looking at the paperwork in the folder, I saw that I had filled out the volunteer application one month ago exactly, lol. Apparently one of the other girls just quit very suddenly, and since I have so much experience with libraries–having worked in two–they immediately thought of me. 😀 So excited! And it’s within walking distance (like four blocks) so no need for gas money! The official title is “page,” which I think is funny ’cause technically the library is full of pages already. 😉 I’ll pretty much just be shelving books (which I enjoy most anyway) and occasionally helping out at the desk when it’s busy. When it’s not busy, I get to walk around and straighten the shelves and make sure they’re in order. Yes, I did say “get to” as in a good thing because I actually like doing stuff like that. I’m a nerd, so sue me.

I got the phone call about it yesterday evening and today was my first official day. I still need to run a few things in like my social security card (I somehow grabbed Ian’s instead of mine without noticing) and a phone number for one of my references, but it’s pretty much official now. Today I worked from 3:30 to 8, and tomorrow I’ve got six hours scheduled. I don’t have a real schedule yet; we’re making it up as we go along. I figure that’ll get worked out at some point when they have more time. This was pretty sudden and they’ve all got a meeting tomorrow that’s out of town so they’ve got other things on their minds. And I’m actually doing a pretty good job remembering names for once! It helps that there are some repeat names, hehe.

So that’s the news. I have a job! I’ll probably still look and see if I can’t find something else to fill in the gaps, maybe try and get some people to tutor or something. But for right now, I need to go let the cat in and then get back to NaNoWriMo. I’m up to 7,782 words now. I bet I could hit 9.000 tonight if I keep from getting distracted by Animal Crossing. 😉 Night!

    Congrats!!:

Don't think I need to offer a 'Good Luck' on this job. I know you will enjoy it. Hopefully it will lead to something with more time.

How is Animal crossing coming? I been checking the store everyday but not much more than that. No steam roller yet, or daisey shirt, dark polka or new spring shirt.

    Love, Dad

    :D:

I actually reset my second game (the weeds everywhere!!) and am playing it like I originally played my first game to build my house and all that, but it's still just sporadic. Gulliver flew by once yesterday and I missed him (grr). I've had the dark polka shirt. Dunno about the other two, but I'll check again tonight when I've got more time. For now it's time to get ready for work! 🙂
