Well, I’ve added another edition of Advising Adventures in EverQuest. I would have been working on grading papers or lesson plans or, you know, something, but I had a former classmate in here talking with me for a while (i.e., since I got here at eleven and it’s now one), and there really wasn’t much else I could do. The topic jumped around more than Mexican jumping Continue reading
Shooting
In the wake of the school shootings in Virginia, a lot of people around here are a bit jumpy. The shootings are a hot topic all over the department and among the students. So when this emergency message popped up on my computer while I was typing a worksheet for one of my classes, I even began wondering if something was up.
Crocheted bikini
I have a calendar here at work called “Crochet pattern-a-day,” and today’s pattern is for a crocheted bikini. Fascinating. So I get to look at a mannequin waring a gold-colored bikini all day during my office hours. Joy. At least it’s better than the overly-bright purse made out of Kool-aid foil drink wrappers or the baby Abraham Lincoln hat/beard and so on.
WiG, Take 3
Tada! WiG (as I commonly refer to Writing in Green) has gotten a facelift thanks to the husband. I’ve had the idea of making the page look more like a notebook for quite some time now (as in months), but I could never quite figure out how it would work, and I wasn’t sure I could draw it in the first place. But Ian took care of all that for me by coming up with the spiral Continue reading
Royal Blue
I was putzing around on-line looking up the current French presidential candidates when I remembered I ought to check my campus e-mail. So I hop over to the ISU site and pull up the Portal which has pretty much everything on it: e-mail, midterm grades, campus announcements, class schedules, etc. The campus announcements are just headlines until you click on them, and I Continue reading
Three more weeks
It’s almost hard to believe that there’s only three more weeks (or so) left this semester. My beginning-level classes are behind and there’s little time for review let alone another complete chapter. They still have an oral exam (a sort of conversation/interview) which means more grading, and I’m already behind enough when it comes to handing back papers. I have three Continue reading
Writers’ concerns
I’ve been puttering around with Book Two, as some of you might remember, and generally when I’m working on the novels, I’m not just thinking about the current book being written. This is self-evident by the sheer proliferation of excerpts and notes I jotted down and fleshed out on Books Two through Nine before Book One was even a quarter written so many years Continue reading
Happy Zombie Day
Well, today’s the day we celebrate the beginning of the zombie revolution by hiding, finding, and eating chocolate eggs laid by an over-sized fey rabbit. Is anyone else fascinated by this bizarre behavior? South Park recently tried to make sense of the connection between Z-day and rabbits via a parody of the Da Vinci Code saying that the apostle Peter was actually a Continue reading
Enfin
The house has yet to burn down, and now that the electric company has come down to work on the wiring outside of the house, the chances that power surges/drops will cause a fire are now minimal, less than the chances were before this fiasco. It wasn’t our wiring that was screwed up, it was the wiring in the alley that was causing problems. Since they’ve come out, our lights don’t dim Continue reading
ZAPPED
Brilliant. The electrical problems of the weekend have worsened. Worsened so much so that there was the potential for a house fire yesterday afternoon. Mind you, I unplugged quite a bit and shut off more than a few power strips, but I guess that wasn’t enough to keep the insane power fluctuations from wreaking havoc. When I dropped off the rent check yesterday Continue reading
