Banana Splat

I don’t cook much. I’m sort of one of those “throw it in the microwave” or “throw it all in a bowl” and then eat it kind of person. Last night was one of those “throw it all in a bowl” nights. I had recently picked up a bunch of fruit (yay fruit!), and since we have ice cream, I decided on a sort of banana split. Now I’m not one of those freaks who puts nuts on ice cream, so my toppings were some chopped up strawberries, chocolate syrup, and caramel syrup (I prefer it to butterscotch) all on top of vanilla ice cream on top of quartered bananas. It didn’t look like a banana aplit mostly owing to its bizarre shape and running-togetherness, but it still looked good. Then inspiration hit me. Ian and I had recently been talking to Damien about Mudslides: chocolate milk shakes with Kaluha liqueur added in. If Kaluha is so good with chocolate syrup and ice cream, why not with this? So I splashed about a shot and a half all over my big bowl of sundae. I dug in, and it was great! After a short period of time, I did what I always do when there are disparate foodstuffs all in the same bowl (and sometimes plate): I mashed and mixed them all together forming a brown liquidy sludge with largish chunks of indeterminate things covered in and floating in aforementioned sludge. All still very good, by the way. Since my banana split got dowsed in alcohol and then became more akin to something you’d find splattered across a windshield if you were mudding in some field, I decided to call it a “banana splat.” I’m sure someone else out there has already tried adding Kaluha to a normal banana split, so there’s probably some other name out there for it but I don’t care. Hooray for the banana splat!
