Well, some of you may have noticed that my NaNoWriMo word count bar graph to the left of the posts has gone over 50,000 words for this year’s writing event. Woohoo! I did that late last night prior to attempting to go to bed only to get up, play Phoenix Wright games for several hours, and then finally conk out sometime around four. Since getting up, I’ve beaten the game I Continue reading
Well crap
All right, my sinuses have been kicking my ass for the past couple weeks. First it started out with fatigue and some scary lymph node activity (seriously, who put lymph nodes so close to the breasts? Find a lump in that area and it’s cause for a good week’s worth of panic–which is pretty much exactly what I did), and now it’s converted to the typical headaches/scratchy throat/ Continue reading
Knitwit
Well, I’m getting faster at knitting, but that doesn’t mean I’m getting any better. (Yes, that’s half a row of purl in there for some odd reason.)
Wordsplosion
I spent about six hours crocheting today. Yeah, my one day off before an eight-day stretch into the end of next week and I spent most of it playing with yarn instead of writing. It wasn’t necessarily that I didn’t have ideas to write down, but I felt like crocheting. Now I’m trying to break 30k words before midnight so I’m still roughly in the same vicinity as last year’s tally for today: 31,899. The thing is, I don’t think that I’ll be even able to attempt to keep up past tonight, however. The total for November 12 last year was 40,173. With work tomorrow all afternoon and evening, there’s no way I’ll be writing over 8,000 words! It stays pretty ridiculous after that too: 45,624; 52,362 (2 days in a row) then jumping up to 61,598… Well, you get the picture. I obviously had a word explosion last year around this time that I simply will not be able to match this year. After all, last year I was working only 15-20 hours a week. This year, I’m working full-time plus all the other random stuff I do for work. Add to that not feeling particularly well for the past week or so, and there’s no way I’ll be able to do more than simply average 1000-2000 words a day on most days. Today, I’ve written about 4,000 words and hope to write more before the day’s out. That’s on a good day ’cause I’ve been off all day. That’s not happening again until the 20th. :/ Oh well, I’m gonna see if I can finish off chapter six real quick then try to get closer to the real plot of the story before too long. I had this problem with Book Two: too much lead-in for the actual action. Madness. At any rate, have a fun night!
Looking at numbers
I’m more than a little anal retentive, and sometimes I like to organize and nitpick and collect details just a little too much. Case and point: I wrote down every single daily word count from last year’s NaNoWriMo event, and I have so far written down every daily word count from this year too. The numbers are interesting to compare. Last year, I worked more in fits and spurts Continue reading
Distraction
What I’ve spent my afternoon doing in lieu of writing.
Plotlines
I’ve still only just written half of Book Four’s prologue, half of its chapter one, all of chapter two, and nothing else. While that doesn’t seem like much to me, I at least take consolation in the knowledge that I have a pretty good outline and a really good sense of where the story is going. Yet even with my awesome outline and my keen sense of direction (excepting being inside large Continue reading
Meetings
Let’s see, to recap this week so far before I head out to work. First off, the NaNoWriMo meeting Sunday went pretty well. There were two people there besides me and Ian, and rather than follow the itinerary that I had made, Ian and I instead fielded questions to try and get the two other people there acquainted with what NaNo is and how it works. It would have been nice had Continue reading
Half an hour
As of right now, there’s only half an hour before National Novel Writing Month starts. I’ve spent the better part of the evening working on my notes for Book Four, since that’s the novel I’m going to work on this November. The husband and I had walked to the gas station a mile away to get coolant for the van (it’s leaking that stuff, which pisses us off ’cause it’s the only vehicle we’ve got) Continue reading
Happy Halloween?
So I went to let the cat out this morning and look what I found on the stoop. Yeah, that’s a plastic doll arm. I’m thinking it’s from someone at the library or crochet club. I know strange people!
