Some walking

I actually have another post that I want to write at some point this week, though I’m still mulling it over in my head for the time being and have decided in the interim to post random stuff about occurences in my life lately. Can’t say any of it will be interesting, but well, that’s the story of my life. I’m a pretty boring person on a day-to-day basis. Even Kitty agrees as she sleeps lazily beside me because I’m such an uninteresting person.

Last Friday I attended a day-long series of classes at the Jasper Library with Mom. The Indiana State Library has made it a new requirement that to get re-certification to be a public librarian, all librarians are required to take a bunch of classes by 2013. I wasn’t planning on attending Friday’s classes (there were four of them) because as a page, I don’t get credit for any of them, but since Mom was driving down, I figured I might as well. I won a button and pencil for being the geekiest person in the room with a cell phone. Librarians in large numbers are insane, by the way, just in case you were unaware.

I taught myself how to make filet crochet last week as well. I started a small project to crochet a cat Thursday night and finished it Friday morning. Filet crochet is basically where you make a grid of boxes, some filled in and others empty in order to make a picture. It generally uses thread, though I suppose yarn could work too if the project is larger. I left the cat I made at the library with my other samples. If I remember, I’ll take a picture of it with my phone. Right now I’m working on flowers or something. I’m only four rows in, so it just looks like squares for the timme being. So I’ve taught myself crochet, Tunisian crochet, and filet crochet. Maybe my next project will be to learn cro-knit. I have no idea how that works. That or Irish crochet. There should be more doilies in the Doyle household. 😉

Friday night through Sunday, Rook was over at our place so I could help him with a Shakespearean sonnet and Ian could help him with econ homework. We ran into Jessica at Wally World Saturday as we were wandering around looking at prices so Rook could write them down for his homework. Rook and I spent Saturday evening talking about his college choices, and having been an academic advisor for indecisive and confused students, I was able to help him narrow down the search parameters to come up with only a couple likely candidates. We ended up sending Rook home kind of early Sunday evening because Ian was getting weather alerts on their little radio thing at work, and we didn’t want him driving home in inclement weather since he’s still not the most experienced driver. We’d like to see Rook in college next year, not a grave, after all.

Monday I worked and totally forgot about the end-of-the-year luncheon the library was having for the staff until I got there and clocked in. No biggie, I guess. The dollar I stuck in the envelope to help pay for my lunch went to help pay for their lunches instead. After work, I putzed around on WoW all evening with Ian doing goofy stuff like trying to find all the books you can read to get an achievement and fishing up coins in a city fountain. Mindlessness, really. I like it that way.

Today’s my day off, and it’s patch day for WoW, meaning it won’t be available for play until after three. In the meantime, I walked to the post office to mail birthday presents for Ally and Em (they should get them tomorrow or Thursday). I’d’ve sent them earlier, but when it comes to crocheting projects, sometimes they just take longer. Sometimes they take longer because you’re helping someone with homework or playing a video game too. 😉 On the way back from the post office, I figured I’d swing by the Corner Deli for a Strassenfester sandwich (German mustard, sauerkraut, corned beef, cheese, and knockwurst on pumpernickel bread) only to find that they were unexpectedly closed today. Huzzah. That just meant more walking around in sub-freezing weather, but at least it wasn’t snowing/sleeting/freezing raining like the winter storm warning cautioned. I ended up coming home and heating up a can of green beans in the microwave. Exciting. Well, it would have been more exciting had I not removed the beans from the can first. Heating them in a ceramic bowl was less exciting than it could have been.

On a very different note, I am happy to say that Jamie’s back surgery apparently went well today. Lushbaugh sent a text message once she was in her room and he with her. He was waiting for her to wake up. I told him to send her Ian and my best, meaning to say something really stupid and insane. At least, that’s my best. I’m sure Ian could come up with something better. I’ll have to see about making some sort of get-well present for her. She’s going to be stuck at home for the next several weeks to recover. I’m glad that it looks like the surgery went well, and I really want for this to fix some of the problems she’s been having for so long now. Jamie’s an awesome person, and I think she deserves a break from all this pain. Get well, Jamie!

Hmm. I think that I’ve said just about all I can think about for right now. I have some ideas for future posts, but like I said in the previous post (like a week ago), I’m rather at a loss for words in general (though I do find I can still write quite a bit once my fingers hit the keys) and have ideas but haven’t the will to sit down and get them out. Oh well. We’ll see. If the servers for WoW are still down in the next couple hours, maybe I will write some more. Or crochet. I have two major projects I want to finish by the end of next week. Later!
