Wrote out

I think NaNoWriMo took most all my words out of me. I haven’t much been in the mood to type, though I highly suspect a large portion of this hesitation is due to having picked up WoW once more with a fervor. I enjoy the new system of achievements where you do silly little things like traveling around and collecting pets and crafting pointless things. Tonight’s play will be devoted to trying to get a particular pet that will likely take a few hours. But that’s neither here nor there. On to the things I’ve been up to.

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday last week and who sent cards and presents. I spent my birthday putzing around doing very little, which was fine by me. Last Thursday I taught my first crochet class at the library. There are 18 people there (or 17; some people moved around so much it was hard to keep count) and it seemed everyone really enjoyed themselves. The ages ranged from seven to very nearly seventy. All in all, a good beginner class.

I’ve been crocheting quite a bit, as usual. I’ve just about figured out the gingerbread man pattern. I’ve been working on scarf after scarf after scarf, and eventually I’ll get back to the couple afghans I started so long ago. Now that I’ve taught myself Tunisian crochet, I’ve picked up a book on filet crochet so I can help people interested in that at the crochet class. We had our second crochet class tonight with far fewer people (the Tuesday night didn’t work out for many), but everyone was still happy to come. I think next week I’ll bring in some of my own projects so I have something to work on while everyone else practices.

I had attempted to post twice from my phone–once yesterday and once today–though neither went through. I had taken a picture of a tiny object and was going to have people guess what it was. Instead, I’ll just post about it and not worry about the pictures. Yesterday while Ian and I were playing WoW with Damien, we had some cheese and crackers as snacks. I had cut off a piece of colby and was chewing on it when I bit down on something hard. Knowing colby shouldn’t have rocks in it (that’s what it felt like when I bit down), I pulled the cheese out of my mouth and felt the tooth that had been hit since it stung a little at having been banged against. When I felt the tooth, I knew something was wrong. I went to the bathroom to look at it and sure enough: it broke. It’s a tooth that has been pissing me off for years. Every time I eat chicken or turkey or steak or popcorn or any sort of food that can get caught between teeth, food would get caught on this one molar invariably. I have flossed that tooth more times in a day than is reasonably necessary. It had a filling in it, and I suppose that all these years, that’s what was keeping the two parts together. So the majority of the tooth is still there along with the filling, and a small piece about the size of an uncooked grain of rice is sitting on my desk. The edge where the filling had been against the missing piece is a bit on the acute side, but it’s not sharp enough to cut me. I can’t help but poke it with my tongue, however. It’s like a canker sore that’d go away if only you could stop messing with it. This, of course, won’t go away, but I do keep messing with it. I’m less than thrilled to be falling apart like this, but what can I do? I’m getting old.

At any rate, it’s back to laundry, Bleak House, and either crocheting or playing WoW for me. I’d write more but I can’t think of much more to write about. I’m rather distracted by yarn, Dickens, and my computer. Maybe I’ll write more tomorrow. Then again, maybe not. Have a good evening for you late readers or a good morning for you early risers.

    OUCH:

It's no fun when teeth or fillings break…I wince thinking about it! Do you have a dentist there that you like? Good luck Hon!

Luckily it doesn't hurt at all:

The only dentist I knew in this area was Cousin Larry, but he's not in LGT anymore now, I think. Besides, there's no way Ian and I can afford to get anything done about it until January at the earliest. I'm keeping an eye on it and being careful about sticky or hard foods just to keep from making it worse until we can get it looked at. At least it doesn't hurt, right?

    Dr. Smith:

Dr. Angela Smith took over Larry's practice. It cost about $80 for me to get a tooth fixed like that but part was covered by insurance. Maybe about $120 without insurance?

    :

We didn't have dental insurance with the company your uncle worked with while we lived in Indpls. They gave us cheaper rates when I told the staff at the office. I was nicely surprised.

    Ditto:

Dentist offices are goofy and have all sorts of pricing structures based on insurance and without. Good luck, I hate going to the dentist either way.
