Well, as though that comic wasn’t terrifying enough, I got a phone call about an hour ago from Lushbaugh telling me to go to the backyard. Sounds like the start to a horror flick, eh? At any rate, I take Ian’s phone out with me (since that’s what he called), and step outside. There, lying in front of Ian’s car, is a tree branch. No, no, let us say an entire bough of the tree. This is no mere limb; this is six inches in diameter from where it separated from the trunk. See where it separated? (Images below are actually thumbnails linking to larger images; I made thumbnails so loading time would be less and those on dial-up could just right-click to save them rather than having to load them up over a half-an-hour while on-line–because I’m guessing that’d be faster.)

It’s funny though, because I’ve always said that that old tree out in the backyard would probably fall on the minivan. It’s funny because the minivan wasn’t back there; it’s parked on the street. Ian’s car is back there, and the tree probably didn’t fall on it because it’s not the minivan. See how close it came to the grill?

The bough came down as the result of a massive thunderstorm which tore down trees all over town. Lushbaugh said he saw some massive trees split pretty badly along Ohio and 14th streets. I had gone to bed just as the thunderstorm was rolling in, which meant it took forever to sleep through the strobing lights of lightning. That’s one thing about having a bedroom with four windows–they’re prone to letting a lot of light in. So I wasn’t on my computer when the storm was raging. Ian was, however, and he said this morning when I came down that he’d been having some bad internet problems. See the red arrow in the pic above and the pic below? That marks where the limb is stretching our phone wire. No wonder Ian was having internet problems last night; the bough nearly took the wire right out of the socket.

So there you have it. I was thinking about playing WoW for a while, but until they take the bough off our lines, I think I might just defrag and crochet. That and Kitty has been yelling at me for the past half hour. Maybe I’ll go chase her around until she’s tired of pestering me. I bet she’d like to go out in the backyard to see the bough, heh.
