I figure the husband will eventually talk about this weekend and his grandma's 90th birthday party, so I'll just go back to Friday afternoon because it has much more influence over the next several weeks than the party. Friday afternoon I had a few students in and out of the office. Heather (my officemate) was in Tennessee visiting a sick relative, and Susan (my supervisor) was in Florida with relatives. I was the only one there and was getting pretty sleepy, contemplating heading out a bit early because I still had to pack for the trip to Loogootee. I stuck around, however, because I was the only OP advisor. Around a quarter after four, fifteen minutes before my day ended, I got a phone call from Susan. I figured this was one of those "Hey how's it going since I've been away?" phone calls, but since it started with an "I'm sorry to have to do this" line, I quickly decided otherwise.
The short and long of the conversation went something like this:
Susan: "I'm sorry to have to do this, but I was just reminded that your internship is only ten months, not twelve months. You're going to have to take some time off."
Me: "Uh, when?" I knew I was teaching in August and couldn't possibly take time off during the semester.
Susan: "Well, now. Don't worry about coming in Monday."
Me: "Um, okay. When do I come back then?"
Susan: "I guess you can come back the Monday before classes start."
There was a bit more to it than that, but essentially what this means is that I'm not working until August 22. So what am I going to do with all this newfound free time? I guess I'll work on packing, cleaning, writing up lesson plans for Univ 101, and my thesis. It's probably going to drive Kitty nuts though. Here Ian and I were gone for almost two weeks and now we're both going to be here full-time except for errand-running. Crazy. Oh well. Time to run to the office so I can collect the snail and the books I have checked out for my thesis. I still can't get it into my head that I'm officially not working for the next month and a half. Weird.

Let me know:
Let me know when you're ready to move. I'll lend a hand.
Cool!:
Enjoy the time off!
Welcome to the Club!:
The club of unemployed people who are packing for an inevitable move to a new residence before September. LOL
Whee!:
Take it as a blessing. Now you have all the time you need to get ready to move and stuff.
Noooooooooo:
Erni, who am I going to talk to if you aren't there? I'm doomed.
