Yoga and Pilates

Ouch –Erin Doyle

Well, I&#039ve been meaning to get into some sort of shape for a while now (other than pear-shaped, thank you), so I&#039m trying to get in the habit of doing one or both of my exercise videos. One of them is on VHS so I roll the exercise mat out in the living room for about thirty minutes, and the other is on DVD so I roll the exercise mat out here in the bedroom for about twenty minutes. Add to that the two miles I walk every day (a mile to and a mile from work), and I&#039d say that after a while, I might start looking better. Hell, I don&#039t even care that much if I look any better; I&#039m more concerned with feeling better. Getting more limber and stretching more often has got to help with the arthritis, right? Maybe once I get used to the yoga/pilates work-outs, I&#039ll be able to start doing aerobic exercise without having to use a half a tube of Bengay on myself every time I do it. Oh, and I&#039m going to try and cut back on soda…again. I did pretty good for a short while after the kidney stone, but I&#039ve gotten bad about it again, so I need to just stop. I think one thing that would help me out a lot with this exercise kick would be if everyone I know gets on my case about remembering to do it. I won&#039t remember on my own, but if I get nagged enough, I&#039ll start getting used to keeping it up on a more regular basis.

Oh, and before I forget, I just wanted to mention that I&#039ve picked up the novel again. I wrote three pages this afternoon (Yeah, I know that doesn&#039t sound like a lot, but I&#039ve been away from it for about two months now.), and I think that after I get a shower (rolling around on the floor kinda makes me want to do that), I think I&#039ll try to get chapter seven typed up and on the webpage for all of you (the four or five of you who pay attention to the novel) to read sometime soon. I&#039m just counting on my limbs being limber enough to keep me from getting too many hand cramps.

    Good for you!:
What tapes do you have? And do you like Pilates or Yoga better? I need to start doing one or the another (or both like you) but there's so many tapes out there, I'd hate to waste my money on a bad one.

Looking forward to reading more of your novel! I actually looked at mine again yesterday.

Well, I'm only a little sore:
Once I get home, I'll have to look at the names of the tape/DVD that I have. I really like the yoga tape 'cause there isn't a lot of banter, and I haven't been doing the yoga/pilates DVD long enough to really have gotten too into it, but since it's a combo of both, it seems pretty cool. I was sure feeling the strain on my abs though, which is cool 'cause that's what I want to work on.

And I got about five pages typed up on the book last night, so chapter seven is just about done. After doing some more yoga tonight, I think I'll see if I can't get that done and on the page. I'm glad you're looking forward to it. 🙂

The names of the workouts are::
Yoga Journal's "Yoga: Practice for Energy" with Rodney Yee

Alliance Atlantis' "Louise Solomon's Yoga & Pilates Total Body Toner"

The first is one of a series each focusing on different aspect of working out (energy, toning, weight loss, I believe) and the secons I got in the five dollar bin at Wal-Mart. So there you go, have fun!
