Cross stitching!

I’ve spent the morning cross stitching here. It’s so nice to have sent Jerry off for the committee to read rather than spend the entire day working on him. I’ve had only one student in so far this morning, and I’m going to miss him. He’s withdrawing and going into the Navy. Really great guy, and I know he’ll do well in the military ’cause it’s in his family. After that, it was more cross Continue reading

Headache mountain

Grarr. My headache is powerful enough to break mountains! It sucks. So far I’ve taken two Tylenol, two Aleve, a Benadryl, and a vitamin this morning. I’m working on a Mello Yello, so maybe the caffeine will help too. I teach in about fifteen minutes, so I gotta get perky before then. So, random updates for now: Continue reading

Serendipitous Joy!

Huh, I don’t think I have any clue how to spell “serendipitous,” but you get the point. I just discovered happy-inducing information! They’ve replace the sensor-based faucets in our department’s bathroom with ones which have handles! I can actually use hot water now, not have to worry about the sinks coming on when I’m just standing in front of the mirror trying to fish an Continue reading

The things you learn

I love reading the translations of instructions. Doesn’t matter if they’re for the proper use of a lamp or how to construct a bookshelf. Whenever I come across and instruction manual or guide sheet that has both French and English on it, I always read the French and compare it to the English. I figure that this helps me in two ways: it reinforces/rebuilds what I learned about registers in my Continue reading

Emergency contraception

I just got back from the Commons with my lunch, and on the sidewalks around the Hulman Memorial Student Union, someone has written messages in sidewalk chalk about emergency contraception and how it helps prevent abortions and how it needs to be made more readily available in the United States. Now, this may just be me, but isn’t emergency contraception itself Continue reading

Morning

It’s morning again. That seems to happen a lot around here, come to think of it. I’m almost looking forward to getting laid off in July just so I’ll have a month to sleep in. After the past two semesters I’ve had, I could use a month of sleep. I sympathize with MacGuyver (which I’ve been watching a lot of lately) when he gets back from some project Pete gave him because he’s always exhausted Continue reading

Lettuce on the desk

I brought what’s left of a head of lettuce in to work today to eat as a snack. Sometimes I can’t believe the number of people who stop and poke their heads into my office when they see what I’m eating just to ask, “Is that lettuce? Are you eating it like an apple?” Half the time I reply with: “Yes, it’s lettuce. Yes, I’m eating it like an apple. Yes, I do this often. I am normal.” But sometimes Continue reading

Urges

This could just be me, and knowing my own particular brand of insanity, I’m leaning towards some of this is just me whereas normal people have watered-down varieties of this, but sometimes I just have these spontaneous urges to do random shit. Like I was reading through blogs and my eye caught the nail polish on my desk and I suddenly imagined picking up the bottle, opening it, and Continue reading

Editing

Well, I’m editing the thesis pretty hardcore now. I’m working to get it compliant for both my LSA stylesheet (Linguistic Society of America) and the Grad School’s handbook, and I’m editing and revising according to the notes/comments my committee members have sent. Unfortunately, I don’t have all the revisions from all my committee members. I’ve got a lot from Dr. Phillips, some from Continue reading
