GRARR

Let’s see, it’s raining, first off, just to set the mood for the rest of the post, and it will be raining for the rest of the day leading into possible storms tonight. Dippy. So I drag the umbrella in and am putting it down on the floor in my office once I get in here, and I accidentally catch the button with my thumb, sending the umbrella flying up which pulls on the handle and thus slices about a pea- Continue reading

Il pleut

Well, this is the calm before the storm, I believe. Advanced registration for summer and fall classes begins next week, and while most Open Preference students are sophomores and freshmen and cannot register until the 17th or 24th, the flood consisting of those smart enough to get in early has already begun in a trickle of phone calls and occasional drop-ins today. The sitation will worsen Continue reading

Sports fans are loud

Back at work again. That seems to happen a lot, come to think of it. Heather’s out today so she can work on her papers, and she deserves a break from all this insanity anyway. So I figured it’d be quiet when I got in this morning, but noooOOOooo. I forgot that the ISU women’s basketball team is playing some big game tonight, and since 98% of the department is obsessed with them, I Continue reading

Drug cocktail

My head is swimming pretty bad right now, and I can barely breathe, but I’ll try to type this with a minimum of typos. So far this morning I’ve been at the office for about forty minutes and I’ve taken the following drugs/vitamins: Viactiv, Aleve, One-A-Day, Benadryl, and Tylenol (x2). The reason for this drug overdose? Well, the first three I take everyday since they’re vitamins and the Aleve’s Continue reading

I’m trying

I’m still kinda sick; I can taste the sinus trouble creeping its way down my throat at a miserably glacial speed. I sometimes think that the speed at which this mucus is moving is indicative of how soon I’ll be over this cold: the next ice age, perhaps. But, at least I slept in later yesterday morning (although I had gone to bed at three) which I suppose is meant to help in the recovering process. Continue reading

Boredom

So I get bored up here sometimes, especially on Fridays when students don’t tend to show up. I mean, I’ve had several phone calls and a few students in off and on today, and there was that meeting this morning for all the advisors, but since I’m the only Open Preference advisor up here right now (Heather’s sick and Susan’s in a meeting across campus), there’s no one to bother in the Continue reading

Does it really matter?

So yesterday was insane as is fairly obvious from my post. What is probably less evident is that it was insane enough to already get my goat incredibly early in the morning. I got here before eight to finalize my syllabus and make photocopies before class. What ended up happening was a steady stream of students who still hadn’t registered or who had lost their PINs to register along with Continue reading

Semester beginning

Today was the first day of Late Registration for beginning students for the spring term. Today we had transfer students which poses its own brand of problems for us because we have to figure out what transferred and what didn’t in order to know what classes to sign them up for. Tomorrow will be far busier as we’re slated to have about five times as many students coming in. I have yet to Continue reading

A long week

Despite the fact that all the students have gone home and there’s really nothing to do here at the office this week, I’m still here every day from 8 to 4:30 at my desk. At least Heather’s here still and we can keep each other company. I’ve brought my laptop in today and plan on watching movies (Mummy, Boondock Saints and A Christmas Story) while cross-stitching up a few last Continue reading
