I have insurance! I have life insurance, health insurance, dental insurance, and eyeballs insurance! Well, I will have once the paperwork goes through and it becomes effective in October, but still, it’s kind of exciting. This is the first job I’ve ever had where I get benefits like insurance. I don’t know how much normal insurance costs, but I think that what I’ll be paying sounds good Continue reading

In between classes
Well, I’m in my office in between my 101 and 202 classes. I’ve got about twenty minutes before I have to get up, so I thought I might toss a quickie message up here in the interim. I still have a crapload of stuff to grade, but I’m going to drag that to the laundromat with me tonight since I still have laundry to do. I figure I’m feeling a little better, so I ought to get it done quickly before I Continue reading
La clé!!
I finally got a key to my office door! Today after my fourth class, I swung by the secretary’s office, and she said she’d stuck a note on my door telling me that my key was ready to be picked up at Facilities Management. Sweet ass! So I ran over there, signed for my key, and ran back to my office where I unlocked my door with my new key! I’m so happy, and it’s so shiny! 🙂 Now I Continue reading
Before I get back to grading…
So finally a post about my new job as full-time faculty Frenchie at ISU. I meant to post something at the end of my first week, but a three-day fever/head cold prevented me from doing much beyond drooling on my pillows and blowing my nose. Far too much in the way of bodily fluids that weekend. This past weekend was spent catching up on sleep and working on the novels (I’ve had Continue reading
Today’s insult: fuddy-duddy
Today’s been long. The laundromat, the BMV (the license plate tags were expired; something I’ve got to get used to is ‘Doyle’ updates in March whereas ‘Ringwald’ was closer to the end of the year), then to Public Safety for a parking tag and new ID. Oddly, as I was pulling into a lot on campus, two officers were out putting tickets on cars. They came over to where I parked and Continue reading
Mmm, pie.
First off, I’d just like to mention that I’m typing this after several beers, Rocky IV and π. Gotta say, it’s an interesting combination, so I’m in a sort of head-floaty place. Maybe I’ll go fix some pu erh dante and get some perversely strong caffeine into the mix. Yeah, baby, yeah. But before I allow my brain to wander off in the 3.14159 directions it’s heading, I’ll get on with my day.
At least I’m used to this
Well, it appears that something has been thoroughly messed up at the university, but since I’ve been there for eight years now, I’m pretty used to random stuff just getting balled up. The current incarnation of messiness has quite a background, but I don’t feel like getting into that as much as what the current issue is. I knew that since I was graduating in early August, it would be a close Continue reading
X-files and French classes
Well, today I woke up to a phone call to find that there was a meeting for all TAs and GAs in the LLL department. I had been told a while back that there’d be a meeting on a Friday, but no one ever told me what time it was, and since the ISU Portal has been down, I haven’t had access to my campus e-mail to know if I got an e-mail about it. Oh well, it didn’t take long to haul my butt Continue reading
No TKT
I’m not going to do a TKT today. It’s way too busy at Sycamore Advantage since today’s the last day for freshman orientation. Tomorrow we’ve got four transfer students, but today’s busy. We’ll have people in and out all afternoon, so no time to type then. Tonight, I have a few projects to work on and won’t have time to come up with much then either. So if you’ve got something you Continue reading
Two weeks left
Well, I have two weeks left here at SASC. It’s an odd feeling, knowing that I’ve been here for six years and yet I’ll be gone in just two weeks. Currently, just about everyone in the department is sitting around the main office eating birthday cake and gabbing. I came back in here because I had to mail an electronic copy of Jerry to the College of Arts and Sciences. That’s just one step closer Continue reading
