Job quickie

Getting ready for my (extremely) part-time job that I just got yesterday! More details later once it’s more official. Hooray for (partial) employment!

Continuation

This morning (bright and early!) I went in to the temp agency to turn in my folder of paperwork and show her my passport (I still need to get that renewed; I like visiting other places) to verify that yup, I’m me and I’m an American. Then I watched a short informational video about safety on the job. Since there’s so much industry around here (between the engine factory and furniture Continue reading

News update!

I’ve been back from the interview for just about an hour, and I think it went pretty well. She asked some follow-up questions about what kind of work I’m interested in, and I basically told her that I’m fine doing just about anything so long as I’m not on my feet all day (like a retail store or food place would require). Some walking and standing is fine, but with as annoying as my Continue reading

Getting close

It’s getting close to the end of the year, and you know what that means: finals. There’s a lot I’ve got to do before the end of the year, most of it grading. Being sick for about a week really made the papers back up, and so there are piles of quizzes and homework I’ve got to get through by the end of next week. I’m actually hoping to get through most of it this weekend though I doubt Continue reading

Madeline

Rather than start the next section of the book in my three French classes today (since they have tomorrow and Friday tomorrow off due to Thanksgiving), I opted for showing a short video after today’s pronunciation quiz. The only video I could find in that short amount of time which fit my time requirement was Madeline Christmas. Twenty-five minutes long, it would work out great Continue reading

It hit 80

Well, it finally hit 80 degrees in my classroom today. It got close several times last week, but today it was absolutely sweltering. Normally it’s about 76 when I first get there, it hits 77 by noon then is 78 by 6th and 7th periods. Today? It started at 77, hit 79 by noon and was 80 in both 6th and 7th periods. I have to say that 6th period is the worst because I have 26 students in there Continue reading

Messing with students

Most of the tests I give in my English class are borrowed copies from the English teacher who taught English 12 last year. So that she didn’t have to try coming up with sample sentences for her exams and quizzes, she used the pre-written sentences in her other English books for the other grades she taught. After all, a sentence is a sentence is a sentence. A sentence containing a direct Continue reading

Up late again

Well, it’s a quarter after midnight (despite the time stamp putting this post at an hour later thanks to stupid time zone issues) at the moment, and I’m still up. Pretty much as soon as I got to the house, I started grading papers and writing lesson plans since 3-week progress reports are due tomorrow which means I need to have all of my students’ grades printed out and ready to Continue reading

First sick day

Well, I took my first sick/personal day today. Am I sick? Nope, but there was no way I was going to be able to teach today. I couldn’t really walk or stand, and I figured that would prevent me from being able to teach, so I called in. Why, you ask? Well, that’s the point of the post, so I’ll tell you. Continue reading

Phew, busy!

K, so there’s a ton of stuff to type and yet not a lot of time to type it. I’ve still gotta come up with lesson plans for tomorrow, after all. At any rate, here we go, more or less.

Thursday: I woke up around four because Tommy’s alarm went off. He’s nice enough to hit it Continue reading
