Ten years

I just got an e-mail tonight from my first ex tonight. It never ceases to amaze me how Clay manages to find me after all these years. Well, it’s not like I’m hiding or anything. Hell, I have a fucking webpage, after all. At any rate, Clay’s e-mail just got me thinking about the past ten years of my life since it’s been about that long since we dated. Shit, that was forever ago. Honestly, this Continue reading

TKT #6

Connotation vs. Denotation

Since today is the husband and my anniversary (I think; that whole date thing is kind of wiggy in my messy mind.), I thought I would use today’s TKT to talk about marriage. Marriage the word, that is, not necessarily all the silly aspects of it like the fact that I use too much garlic when I cook for us and he leaves his socks by the couch or that we’re two of the happiest people in the world Continue reading

Before I get back to grading…

So finally a post about my new job as full-time faculty Frenchie at ISU. I meant to post something at the end of my first week, but a three-day fever/head cold prevented me from doing much beyond drooling on my pillows and blowing my nose. Far too much in the way of bodily fluids that weekend. This past weekend was spent catching up on sleep and working on the novels (I’ve had Continue reading

Going batty

Well, Kitty tried to summon another familiar today. I went upstairs to grab the USB keyboard from the alcove in our bedroom, and I noticed Kitty in there on the floor. Now, this may not seem too unusual to you, but if you realize that Kitty spends most of her time in her room on her bed or in the living room on the couch, then you’d also realize that finding her on the floor of our room is Continue reading

TKT #5

English Infixes

I know it has been a while since I’ve done a TKT, but I’m avoiding paper-grading at the moment, so I figured now would be a great time to pull another TKT out of the woodwork. Today’s topic is about English infixes. You may remember that TKT #4 was about French pejorative suffixes, but that in order to explain that, I went through a fairly lengthly lesson on morphemes and Continue reading

Today’s insult: fuddy-duddy

Today’s been long. The laundromat, the BMV (the license plate tags were expired; something I’ve got to get used to is ‘Doyle’ updates in March whereas ‘Ringwald’ was closer to the end of the year), then to Public Safety for a parking tag and new ID. Oddly, as I was pulling into a lot on campus, two officers were out putting tickets on cars. They came over to where I parked and Continue reading

Mmm, pie.

First off, I’d just like to mention that I’m typing this after several beers, Rocky IV and π. Gotta say, it’s an interesting combination, so I’m in a sort of head-floaty place. Maybe I’ll go fix some pu erh dante and get some perversely strong caffeine into the mix. Yeah, baby, yeah. But before I allow my brain to wander off in the 3.14159 directions it’s heading, I’ll get on with my day.

At least I’m used to this

Well, it appears that something has been thoroughly messed up at the university, but since I’ve been there for eight years now, I’m pretty used to random stuff just getting balled up. The current incarnation of messiness has quite a background, but I don’t feel like getting into that as much as what the current issue is. I knew that since I was graduating in early August, it would be a close Continue reading
