Progress

Woohoo! I doubled my word count since yesterday! I had had 8,579 and now I’m up to 17,379! I went ahead and posted it to NaNoWriMo since it’s a quarter of midnight and I wanted to make sure this got on today’s rather than tomorrow’s. What I find fascinating is that with all that I’ve typed up, I’m not even done with chapter three yet. Of course, there is a prologue to this book so it’s actually more like being halfway through chapter four. Tomorrow’s goal is to break 20k. I can’t say that I’m worried about running out of things to say because I have a fairly detailed four-page outline already typed up along with twenty-five pages of notes plus some charts and drawings. I think it helps that I chose to do a book within my existing series because the events and characters have been in my mind for about a decade now. Had I chosen one of my other book ideas, one where I would actually have to spend serious amounts of time on developing characters and plot, then I think I would be having a harder time of this. Still, I won’t win until I hit 50,000 words, and there’s a lot that can happen between now and the end of November. That’s one of the reasons why I’m so gung-ho to get as much down now as possible (that and not wanting the possibility of leaving another novel hanging for a couple years before finishing it). So the new goals: 20k tomorrow and blinking more so my eyes don’t dry out so much. They’re kind of itchy.

I have also decided that if I need to take a break from coming up with new content, I could go back to typing up more of Book 1. Looking at it, I’ve realized that it currently has 105,687 words and still isn’t all typed yet. There are still five and a half more chapters to get onto the computer. I expect that Book 3 will likely be as long. Madness. I am enjoying it all though. I love typing!
