NaNoWriMo tracker

I also thought about entitling this post “My husband loves to code too much” but decided against it. After all, messing with the webpages is his hobby, and who am I to deny him that bit of happiness even if he does spend too much effort on what essentially four or five people see? At any rate, he has been playing a lot with RSS feeds, SMS uh thingies, and since yesterday he doubled the number of words in his own NaNoWriMo book, he decided to also play with creating a word count tracker for the sites. He created one for his page first, then when he tried explaining to me how to put one on my own page, I just had him put it on there because it sounded a bit more complicated to add than I was willing to mess with. I know HTML just fine, but CSS and PERL are other matters.

So, as you can see over on the lefthand side of the page where I throw absolutely everything else that underneath the comments tracker and the search box is a new box which is a sort of bar graph that will update with my word count every time I update on the NaNoWriMo page. The link underneath the box will actually take you to my NaNoWriMo site, or so Ian tells me. I haven’t actually tried it myself. I recently came up with a cover idea for my third novel (which is very tiny on the NaNoWriMo site), and I ought to post it here at some point, but I just woke up (it’s like seven something-stupid in the morning and I don’t like mornings prior to caffeine) and am cold and confused and would rather not mess with that right now.

Some fun stuff from the third book itself that I thought some of you would get kicks out of. (Where does the phrase “get a kick out of” come from? Now I feel the need to go on a linguistic journey.) The first part of this book takes place in a castle, which is ruled by a queen and has all the usual types of court advisors such as the general of the army and such. I had a brain explosion of giggling and came up with Queen Eva Priscilla for the monarch, mwahahahaha. That… That’s only funny if you know my great-grandma’s name was Eva Priscilla Queen. Uh, yeah, only works on that level, sorry. At any rate, continuing on, I had come up with a first name for the general while watching episodes of the first season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and had decided upon Justus. I couldn’t come up with a last name, however, until yesterday when I was shelving books in the history section and was thinking about my good friend Michael Lushbaugh who is a history king and who enjoys all the war and military kind of stuff. Then it hit me, and I scribbled on the inside of my arm with a pen: “Justus last name: Lushbaugh!” So it’s General Justus Lushbaugh, mwahahahahaha. Too much fun. Er, I was having too much fun with this. Honestly, I derive pleasure from the simplist and silliest things (like a cat does with string), so what I call “hilarious” is often not so interesting to most people. I digress.

Last night, I had a headache and was farily dizzy most of the evening (no idea as to why) so I went to bed early (midnight is early). When I woke up, scrawled along the top of my left arm was a short conversation that I suppose is going to happen somewhere toward the end of Book 3. I normally bring paper and pen into the bedroom for notes, but I suppose I had forgotten last night. But with this note and with some other details fleshed out, I think that I’m going to work on the novel some more today since I’m off work until Sunday. I’m also going to see how long it will take to scrub this large patch of blue ink from my arm. I keep glancing over it and thinking it’s yet another bruise from running into shelves at the library. Confusing. Neh, time to find caffeine and to write! I’m behind in my projected word count by about uh… (crap, math early in the morning) I’m gonna say… Three or four thousand words, I’m not sure. I thought I had figured this out last night, but that was while I was lying in bed waiting to pass out. Oh well, I should be able to catch back up soon enough. If you haven’t noticed, I’m more than a little verbose and loquacious at times. Have a good day!

    Castle:

Is this the castle you had a sketch of in an earlier blog? Need to get down some time to get those dimensions.

    Love, Dad
