Hooray! I finished Katie’s blanket tonight! It took the better part of the evening, and just putting the ribbon in it took over an hour, but it’s finally finished and I have pictures! In fact, I have pictures of all the blankets I made for my siblings. 🙂 (Simon is getting a pillowcase once I figure out how to put buttons on it, and pictures of that will pop up sooner or later.) I’ll post the pictures of the blankets I made in the order I completed them. Therefore, first up is Sarah’s, finished quite a while ago:

The pattern for this came out of a large book of crochet patterns. I’ve made a blanket like hers before, and I’ve made pillowcases using the same patterns. In fact, Sarah ended up with a matching pillowcase because I bought lots of extra yarn (I ran out once and decided not to let it happen again). Here’s her matching pillowcase:

I don’t think I had a pillow to put in it at the time, but they’re easily found in the craft department of Wal-mart. That’s where I’ve gotten the other pillows I use as models for my Etsy site. So once done with Sarah’s, I worked on Tommy’s. I found the pattern for his in my crochet-a-day calendar. The pattern actually called for fun fur to be used as a border, but there was no way I was sticking the equivalent of a feather boa to the edges of Tommy’s blanket. Knowing how much Tommy likes his blue elephant blanket, I tried to find a dark blue that might go with it (though I think his blue blankie from childhood has faded a lot).

Another lover of blue in our familiy is Katie. After all, her logo for her on-line business is a blue kitty. 🙂 So of course her blanket was going to be blue, and I found the pattern for it in a book specifically for afghans. The one in the book was all cream colored, but I decided to make hers a heather blue with bright white borders and a sheer ribbon. Since Ian wasn’t home at the time I decided to take a picture, I just took pictures of it on my desk. In the following picture, just imagine it’s unfolded and that the length is about twice that of the width.

And the following is a closer detail of the pattern itself:

So there you have it! Three blankets made over the period of about four or five months. How many, I can’t remember. I have two other blankets in the works right now, and I might start working on those again should the fancy strike me. As for now, there’s chili in the kitchen waiting to be eaten and I’m hungry. Have a good weekend!
Aw, it's so pretty!:
And thank you!
You're welcome :):
The parents and I agree that we could see the girls trying to abscond with this as soon as you get it. Joking with Ian, I suggested it go in Greg's office. 😉 The color's pretty close here, but when you get it, you'll see that it's really more of a subdued blue, especially in contrast with the brilliant white. I hope it's comfy! 😀
Looking good!:
I use mine whenever I'm chilling with the DF in the office. It's treating me pretty well. 🙂
Yay!:
I'm glad you're getting good use out of your blanket. I use my little one a lot here on my couch. I haven't asked Tommy if he's gotten a chance to use his yet, but it hasn't really gotten all that cold so I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't. I like making blankets. 😀
