News update!

I’ve been back from the interview for just about an hour, and I think it went pretty well. She asked some follow-up questions about what kind of work I’m interested in, and I basically told her that I’m fine doing just about anything so long as I’m not on my feet all day (like a retail store or food place would require). Some walking and standing is fine, but with as annoying as my arthritis is getting, I simply can’t stand for long periods of time without sitting time to break it up. So she made note of that and asked some more questions about what kinds of skills I have regarding office work, and I tried to answer completely without prattling on forever. All in all, I think the initial interview went pretty well.

The position that they’re considering me for would require some skill with Excel (a program I don’t use very much except for making tables and lists) and data entry (something I did lots of in my time at the ISU library). It’s a temp position for nine months to cover two people’s maternity leave, and the first part of that would be on-the-site training. It’s inventory stuff mostly, apprently, which is fine by me because I really like organizing and counting. After all, libraries are basically giant inventories of books, right? So hopefully once the company sees my résumé and the temp agency talks to them, they’ll be willing to give me an interview and hopefully hire me!

In the interim, I was handed a sheaf of papers to fill out here at the house before coming back in with them Thursday morning. As soon as I got home and let the cat out, I started in on the paperwork. It was the basic “I agree to follow safety rules” and W2s and the like, so it didn’t take long to fill out. After I was done, I got up to erase the notes for today’s interview from the dry erase board on the fridge and write in Thursday’s meeting. I’m very ready for Thursday’s meeting. I even have all the necessary documentation sitting in the folder in my bad just ready to go.

On an unrelated note, Kitty has now realized that the door I keep opening in the living room to let in air through the screened door is actually a door. The living room has two windows: one that can be opened but is behind a DVD tower and the entertainment center (so it really can’t be easily opened) and a large sheet glass window behind the loveseat that cannot be opened at all. So to let fresh air in, I open the front door (whose lock [excepting the deadbolt] is a really, really old skeleton key type lock, which is kind of cool) and just let the air come in the screened door. Well, sometimes when I know the cat is outside on the loose, I’ll open the screened door to see if I can see her, and just as I did, she came running up to the step and was absolutely amazed that she could get in the house this way. She hopped in and out of the house three times before coming in completely and going on patrol in the house. I have a feeling she’ll be pestering me to be let out of that door from now on because it’s closer to where I am all the time. <Sigh> Crazy cat. Her cuteness makes up for that though. 🙂

So there’s my update. I’m gonna go play WoW for a while then get back to making eyeballs (I’ve got the top halves of two blue eyes done already and a pile of eyestalks just waiting for eyeballs to be attached to) for a while. It’s going to be a long wait until Thursday!

P.S. How strange is it to say “I’ve got (…) a pile of eyestalks just waiting for eyeballs”? Sometimes my life is weird.

    Job interview:

Sounds like things went well. So was this interview with a temp service or with a company looking for someone? And how do you get a folder in your bad?

    Love, Dad

    Temp stuff:

Welcome to the wonderful world of temping!

Yeah the paperwork can be tedious. Make sure to build a good relationship with the person you interviewed with, their goodwill can get you better and better assignments.

If they've given you the paperwork and told you about the assignment they're really considering you for it. Now they'll submit your info to the company to approve and you should hear back from them by friday. I wouldn't be surprised if you had it by monday.

Oops! My bad! (Lol! … Well I thought that was funny):

You know, for someone who probably has dyslexia, you catch on to quite a few typos. 😉 And Lushbaugh basically explained how it goes (since he's done the temp thing for quite a while). I'll be paid by the temp agency, but the company first has to agree to hire me. I'd like to get this by Friday or Monday, but I'm not holding my breath. Tomorrow's another meeting, so I'll try to get to know the people at the agency better then. I know one of them crochets!
