Neat!

Not to so quickly push my prior post out of the way, but I had a few thoughts and wanted to blather a bit. At any rate, I dunno if any of you read the husband’s page, but he’s got a fun little debate going on in the comments of a few of his posts about politics (which is funny ’cause he’s really not all that political just like I’m not) and in response to some comments about libertarians (is that how that’s spelled) and the Constitution and just random stuff like that, I made a comment about how I really don’t completely believe with either big party. If anything, I guess I’d call myself a Democrat just because I can’t stand the idea of supporting a party that doesn’t support gay rights. Meh, beside the point. At any rate, I kinda figure that if anything, I’m really more of a socialist anyway, and I said that if there were a socialist party, that’s probably where I’d be. I’m a friggin’ hippie, all right? I mean, seriously, at this point, I’ve pretty much accepted that my ideology is just bizarre compared to the mainstream ’cause I’m a pacifist, tree-hugging, feminist, civil rights activist, people-loving loon. I guess some people might say I spent too much time in Europe, hehe.

So it got me thinking that there probably already is a socialist party; after all, I lived in Terre Haute for ten years, the home of Eugene V. Debs (his house is right next to the colleges of ed and business), and surely someone has kept that alive. And there is a socialist party! Actually, according to one site, there are three various incarnations. I think it’s kind of neat. I mean, it’s not like the chances of a socialist making it very far in the United States are very good, but even Debs ran for president (multiple times, once from prison). So now I’m gonna go read up on the various socialist parties in the US. It’s random the things I get interested in.

Addendum: Maybe there’s reason to be excited. 🙂 Socialist Party USA article.
