Well, I’m at the office right now for lack of better judgement, but I needed to get my grading and my texts for tomorrow’s classes, and I thought I might try to stick around for my office hours today anyway despite the fact that none of the students slated to come will probably come. At any rate, I’ve been watching the birds outside my window–mostly the cardinals but a crow just flopped down within ten feet of my sill and is tearing through the ice/snow/slush along the footprinted sidewalk. I hear they call the weather we’re having right now “wintry mix,” but I call it “nasty.” It’s supposed to only get worse as the temperature is going to drop later this afternoon making what’s liquid now ice. Bleh. At least the cardinal watching is fun.
So I had an awesome visit yesterday with Aunt Kathleen, Uncle Ron and Carrie. It would be fun if Caroline came to study here next year since I think the husband and I are still planning on staying for at least another year. Aunt Kathleen and I talked about on-line library science classes and so that’s something I think I might look into. They got a kick out of my office as well as my thesis, and they caught me up on some of the things going on in their lives. It was a great visit; I’m only sad that it was for so short a time since it was between classes for me.
Work is decent, I guess. I’ve got a lot of grading to do, but I’m having more fun coming up with different lesson plans, so that’s good. I dunno. I guess I’ll have more to say about work when I have . . . more to say. I don’t really feel like talking about work, I guess is the long and short of it.
I really ought to make a cuppa or some soup or something. Sitting next to my computer means sitting next to the window which means cold air and chills. I wish they’d come finish setting up the new laptop so that I can start using that over on my other desk rather than this poor, abused machine. The desktop would be fine if they hadn’t stuck Windows XP on a machine built for Windows 98.
I had other things to type about, I’m sure, but I can’t think of what they are at the moment. I think that means I should go boil some water, clear off my desk and start grading. I’ve got about an hour before my actual office hours start, so I have some time before students might potentially come. That means more sleet and cardinal watching. Whee.
Staying in TH:
I bet Simon is hoping that you stay for about 7 more years. ISU looks like a place he might want to go.
GO ISU!! Go Rose Hulman
Love, Dad
Woo ISU & RHIT:
Ian and I were actually talking a while back about the possibility of Simon going to ISU or RHIT and how he could probably live with us if he decides he hates the dorms. I mean, we have an extra room and we always enjoy having him around. It'd be kind of like having another Damien. 🙂
