Yesterday in Univ 101 while talking about resources available on campus, I was talking about tutoring and how there’s no magic wand to wave to fix their grades if they come in a week before finals without having bought the book or having gone to only half the classes. I got to thinking about how funny the idea of a magic wand would be for the office since we already have the “Pick a major” box sitting on my desk. So before leaving the house today, I grabbed some random crafts gear and dragged it to work. I spent my first half hour here checking webpages and e-mail as usual, and I’ve spent the rest of that time making a magic wand and sign for my office.
I went to Crayola‘s website to get a picture of a star since I knew a freehanded one would be too irregular. I printed one off then enlarged it by using some basic geometry and a ruler. After cutting it out, I colored it a bit with some markers then added a bunch of gemstone stickers. I took a small dowel rod and colored it with markers as well before affixing it to the star. I then made a green sign which reads: “In case of emergency use magic wand” with an arrow pointing down at the wand. I colored this some too then glued two flaps of paper to it making rings which hold the wand up. I pinned this to the corkboard by my desk and now have a magic wand holder in my office. I put a little footnote on the bottom of the sign like lawyers do which reads: “*Not an actual magic wand. For entertainment purposes only. ED” I then spent some more time making a second wand (slightly less fancy) to bring home and decorate the DnD room with.
It’s now about an hour to lunch time, and I haven’t done much of anything work-related yet. Heather’s out today, so I have the office to myself to goof off. I hate doing lots of stuff in here on Fridays anyway because if I get midway through something by the time to leave, it takes forever Monday morning trying to figure out what I was doing. So Fridays are fun days. I don’t teach and there aren’t many students. If any come in, I’ll just wave my magic wand at them and make them vanish. Woot! Of course, the “vanishing” will probably be as a result of them thinking I’m clinically insane, but that magic works just as well. The insane magics of Erandomandethius, spreading chaos and confusion across the land. Hmm, that’d be a fun short story. At any rate, I’m going to pull out my laptop and probably goof off some more for the next forty-five minutes before I go to lunch. Poof!

Ha!:
Great idea! Drag the digital camera to work one day so we can see it in all its "my-sister-is-slightly-crazy" glory. 🙂
Ooh:
That's a good idea. My corkboard has been getting progressively more creative every week as it is. I should have a picture of it up on the webpage with like a diagram as to what everything is.
tutoring:
tell them its more of a crap shoot than anything else
Yeah that wasn't my comment:
That was Mike's. I would never use the words "crap shoot".
Anyways, tee hee. Your ingenuity never ceases to amaze me.
