OK, so there was this boy. He was like nine or ten years old, somewhere around there, so he was probably in third or fourth grade. One day in class, his teacher assigned some homework to the class about vocabulary. The assignment was to go home and look up a new word in the dictionary, learn it, and then return the next day and tell the word to the class. So the boy went Continue reading

Writers’ concerns
I’ve been puttering around with Book Two, as some of you might remember, and generally when I’m working on the novels, I’m not just thinking about the current book being written. This is self-evident by the sheer proliferation of excerpts and notes I jotted down and fleshed out on Books Two through Nine before Book One was even a quarter written so many years Continue reading
Carrots
Well, I’ve all but condensed my notes for the novels so far. There’s still a small pile of looseleaf papers to copy into my notebook, and then I’ll still have to type up the notebook into Buster, but it’s much easier to find things already. As for actually writing up new material for Book Two, I’ve got only about nine pages so far, but it should take off as soon as I finish Continue reading
Funny lines
You know what’s fun? Going through old stuff. It’s absolutely fascinating going through five years of writings and doodles and poems and looking at it all and seeing what looks like stuff I would have created today and what could only have been done years ago. Then it makes me wonder if in another five years, if those observations will change or stay the same. I’ve Continue reading
Trying to organize
Well, I’ve gone through three rooms of our house looking for notebooks and folders containing notes for my books, and so far I’ve come up with twelve notebooks and six folders all containing notes, passages and diagrams for the novels. There are an additional three notebooks which contain the actual novels themselves (two for Book One and one so far for Book Two). Though I Continue reading
Begin Book 2
I know I haven’t finished typing up all of Book One in the Solennelle & O series, but I have had the major urge to begin work on Book Two. I have had the urge to work on it before, but I wanted to wait until I got a particular type of notebook. Since I started work on the books in France, I was using French notebooks of a particular brand which I really like with a line style I Continue reading
Late is the hour
Not playing an MMO has afforded me quite a bit of free time. Oddly, I find I’ve spent much of it playing at sudoku and watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. However, not all of my new-found free time has been spent idling away doing unproductive stuff. I have managed to get quite a bit of my DnD campaign back up and running as well as having done some actual work-related Continue reading
Can’t stop typing
Well, I have chapter ten typed up and on-line now. I also have added next and back buttons on the chapters which are already up to make reading through more than one chapter easier to do. I’m going to work on chapter eleven now. I could probably have it up later tonight. After all, what else am I going to do? Ian left for work almost two hours ago and the cat’s asleep. I’ll probably Continue reading
I finished!
11:15 pm, August 3, 2006 – I finished my novel! I started it on March 5, 2002. It (only) took me four years and nearly five months to complete, but it’s finished! I wrote the last seven and a half pages today, and now it’s done! I’m so happy!
Book one, chapter nine
Well, I’ve been working on the book a lot the past couple days (as is evident from the excerpt I tossed up yesterday), and I finally got all of chapter nine typed up and put on the webpage. If you’d like to read it, here it is. I feel I have to warn you though: it’s long, and it’s mostly just talking. I figure that since this is the first book in a series and there’s a lot of world-building, character- Continue reading
