Well, the day finally came where I had to retire my old HP laser-jet printer here at work. It was some old model from back in ’98 and it was (clearly) the oldest printer in the building. Being the oldest printer, there were, of course, no replacement cartridges for it anywhere to be found. <Sniff> It was a good printer, a nice printer. I almost never had any problems with it except for Continue reading

Meh
I’ve got about a half an hour before I get pulled away for an advisor’s meeting at three. I really don’t have much of anything to say, but I felt like typing or writing or doing something other than grading or responding to my students’ e-mails. I have the novel here and was working on it (editing, mostly) for a bit, but then I had a run of students and am paranoid to start up again. Continue reading
Thpppbt
Fucking tired. Students started coming in early today. Normally students don’t start showing up for advisement until ten-ish, but today some were coming in during the eight o’clock hour. Susan also had her entire class come up to the center to work on their class projects but also for advising (which she didn’t tell me or Heather about until the last minute), so several came in around ten. Continue reading
Aieeee!
So I had a bunch of exams still to grade but not really a whole lot so I spent the morning trying to grade and respond to e-mails and help get organized for the Major Fair today but all that was kinda hard to do at the same time and then I had a student come in and chit-chat for about an hour or so about random stuff like tea and phobias and teaching English in high schools and Dr. Perrin Continue reading
I’m going to bed after this post
I spent all of yesterday at work and part of the evening grading papers. After finally getting done with those around 9:00, I had the midterm exam to write. Four of them, actually. Two for each class. The first I write has all the questions for one class, then I copy and paste the mess in a different order in another document. Test A, test B. Rinse and repeat for the second class. Enter Continue reading
*Snore* *drool* it’s Friday
Friday. Most people would be thrilled to know it’s Friday, but for me, it has to be the most boring day of the week. See, even though I teach on Tuesday and Thursday, I still at least have stuff to do on Monday and Wednesday. Fridays, however? Fridays are spent doing random shit like making posters and magic wands and updating the webpage and archiving comics and working on Continue reading
Arthritic grading
Well, I officially have far more papers to grade than I can easily calculate mentally. My goal when I left here yesterday was to spend the whole day grading as much as possible, and I still plan on attempting that as soon as I finish messing with e-mails and clearing off enough of my desk to put them all. The reason why I’m only going to attempt doing this rather than succeed in doing this Continue reading
Meningitis
So I spent the majority of my time here at work playing around with my thesis. I didn’t bother going out for lunch, having pretzels and a cup of ravioli at the office. I was waiting around for the phone call to tell me that my student loan check had been reissued (They sent the last one to the old address and the post office didn’t forward it.) so I could go deposit it. While sitting around in Continue reading
Gee, I know I’m worthless but…
So here’s how much an intern is worth. True story since it just happened to me this morning. Heather and I got in at about a quarter to eight, which is normal since we’re early birds and don’t like coming in late like everyone else who shows up at half past or even nine or later. Yesterday during the meeting (where we were mostly ignored since it was more for staff than lowly interns), Continue reading
Amusing students
I’m already amused by many of my students. Their first homework assignment was to e-mail me so that they would have to log onto the Sycamore Portal and so that I knew they knew how to get to their e-mail from there since that’s what I’ll be using to contact them. At any rate, I laughed at quite a number of their “Hello, I accessed my account” e-mails. One girl wrote “I like cheese too” Continue reading
