Thesising

Well, I’ve been working on the thesis pretty much every day, all day long here at the office, so I think I’m making some headway. I also e-mailed my committee about my “progress” and told them how I’m doing and that since I’ve got so much tea, I’ll never go uncaffeinated during this writing slam. I’m sure that may have unnerved them a bit, but go figure. They should all know I’m a Continue reading

Frenching

I came across this…interesting paragraph in a book that I’ve been taking notes from for my thesis. I’ll get to the paragraph in a moment, but first a bit on the book. It has already become somewhat popular here in the office due to its very nature. It’s a book devoted to national, racial, ethnic, sexist, what-have-you slurs. I’m writing a thesis on insults, so why not? It’s a fun book in its Continue reading

Morphology books

Man, I’m pretty nerdy. I just spent a bunch of money at Amazon on books concerning French morphology and French language history. I even got one on argot to further my research, which, I believe, will probably go into the spring since I think I missed some deadlines or something along the way. Not that that really bothers me since I’m going to be in the Haute a while anyway. It’ll just Continue reading

@#$%^&*?! thesis time

OMG, I’m BORING!

So I decided to take a break from my grading during my lunch hour so that I could give my hand a rest. I’ve gone through about 50 papers with about 75 or so left to do, so I figure I’m due a break being about over a third of the way through. I grabbed an article for my thesis and began reading. It’s a twenty page article about the French suffix -aille, discussing its use and morphology and Continue reading

Avoidance

I can’t figure out what to write in chapter one of my thesis (the introduction) since I generally treat introductions as the place where I put my thesis statement and an outline of the rest of the paper. Seeing as how I haven’t written the rest of the paper and have yet to come up with a good outline for it, I haven’t been able to work on chapter one like I wanted to the past week…or two. So I e- Continue reading
