Random tidbits

I keep coming up with stuff to blog about, mostly just random day-to-day life things that I feel like mentioning, but generally by the time I get home, my brain is mush and I just want to watch the news and play Pokémon until it’s time to fall asleep. I have been doing things, just not a whole lot of very interesting things in general. Just a few interesting things of note, really. Oh well, I guessed I’d update and just rattle off whatever came to mind while Ian’s snoring on the futon and I wait to turn the TV on and make a lot of noise watching season 7 of the X-files.

Lessee, this past weekend, the husband and I visited both sets of parents. At my parents’ new house, we chit-chatted while Katie and Sarah painted, Simon painted his room, Tommy took the kids for ice cream at the nearby DQ, and the parents met up with Aunt Paula to work on Simon’s graduation party and Uncle Mike and Uncle Andy helped Dad play with wiring. Lots of fun, and the house looks really spiffy with its new coats of paint. After that, we went to the Doyles where we hung out in the living room chit-chatting for a while and then out on the patio enjoying the evening weather. Fred and I were both getting pestered by bugs while Ian and Francie were left relatively alone. We know who has the sweet blood. Francie gave me some impatiens (sp? they’re flowers) to plant, which I did yesterday. I’ve got pictures of them as well as the rest of the flowers growing around the house, and I figure I’ll try to remember to upload the pictures to show that I actually did something with plants that didn’t cause them to immediately die. Of course, it’s going to thunderstorm here tonight and the little plants might get flooded and die anyway. Oh well, it happens.

I scanned in my drawings for the murals we’re painting in the library. Me and another librarian are the ones devoting our time to it though we have offers from a third to help paint once the penciling is done on the walls. We’re doing murals for three areas: mystery, science fiction, and the theater. The theater is half done; the red curtains around the door being put on hold until we see how much red paint we’re going to need for the bloody footprints in the mystery section. The mysteries line the back wall and a lot of people don’t realize just how far back into the building they go, so we’re going to have a “chalk” outline at the start of the mysteries then have the footprints walk all the way to the end of the mysteries to try and tie the area together. There will also be a silhouette of Holmes, a magnifying glass, and a dagger. For the science fiction, it’s going to be an amagalmation of space on one side of the section and then on the other side there will be a Midieval scene. The space side has a rocket, UFO, alien, comet, a couple planets and moons, and an astronaut being abducted by the aforementioned UFO. The fantasy side has a tower on a hill with a dragon flying overhead and then a knight with sword and shield on the opposite end. His shield will actually have the Jasper flag on it just for kicks. Each area has large letters identifying the section and will be picked out in contrasting colors. Eventually, we might even try to do some other sections, but these were the areas we decided could use more identification or color. It’s going to be more interesting because I’m afraid of ladders.

Ian has rearranged the living room. I’ve mentioned a few times that I kind of wanted the place rearranged, and yesterday while I was at my crochet class, he moved just about everything around. We’re going to move the bookshelves still, but this is a pretty impressive start. Now the loveseat is on the opposite end of the room and the entertainment center has been moved to a corner. In order for Kitty to still have a perch in the large window, Ian stacked up the totes holding my craft stuff and then stuck one of my blankets over them. She seems to like it just fine.

I beat Pokémon FireRed. Have I mentioned that? Maybe. It’s been a little while. Technically, I still ahve to beat the Elite Four, but I’m taking a break from advancing in order to fill out my Pokédex a bit more. I’ve been just running around leveling up Pokémon so I can eveolve them and catch new ones. Some of them I won’t be able to get on this game, which means I’ll have to play my LeafGreen game through to get the rest, but it’s not like I’m in any hurry. The game waits for me, after all. Still, it’s a fun little distraction when my brain can’t think of anything else to do or is too tired to do much thinking at all.

Working full-time has made me a little more tired than before, but mostly just because I have to be up early every day instead of only a couple days out of the week. I’ll get used to the schedule again soon enough. I’ve had to get adjusted to early schedules at many jobs before, so this is nothing new. I’ve been wrapping my feet the past couple days with goat wrap, and I’ve got to say that it really cuts down on the arthritic pain caused by standing all day long. I should get some sort of foot braces to where I just pull them on instead of having to wrap my feet each morning. They’d have to be machine washable too. Feet don’t exactly smell like petunias.

So far I’ve catalogued 95 of our CDs. I need to get to the other half soon. Then I think I’ll work on our PC games since there’s not like a whole ton of those. After that, it’s on to the books. Seeing as how we have probably 1000 of those, they’re going to take a hell of a lot longer. Luckily, most all of the information I need is contained on the verso of the title page. Hooray for ready-made cataloguing materials! I am looking forward to cataloguing all the books and getting them straightened out. On the shelf just behind my head, for example, are the following books as examples of how messed up our order is: Wizardology, several Calvin and Hobbes books, four books on French linguistics, the first Harry Potter book in Irish, a graphic novel on the Holocaust called Maus, A Guide to the Library of Congress Classification, six books by ancient Roman and Greek authors, a book on extinct languages, two Latin textbooks, a French travel log from the 1700s, a book on aquariums, a Far Side book, some Christian fiction called Joshua, a book by Faulkner, and two fantasy/sci fi omnibuses by Tanith Lee. That doesn’t include the books that are stacked up on top of the others or in a pile on the edge of the shelf. Is our collection insane? Hell yes. It’s going to be a bitch to reorganize, but I’ll enjoy it. I’m a nerd like that.

Well, the thunder just started which means the cat will be in hiding for the next several hours. I think that it’s about time to turn on the X-files and either catalogue CDs or work on a craft project. There are a few crocheted hats I need to finish, a headband to complete, not to mention the lesson sheets for next week’s crochet class. Busy busy. I might take some time out to read though. I’ve been in the mood to reread The Scarlet Pimpernel for a while now, and a rainy day is as good a time as any. A demain!
