Well, in about fifteen minutes (as of the beginning of this post), it’ll be the start of NaNoWriMo. I already have some notes and outlines figured out to get me started on my book. No maps for this book so far, however. I’ll get to work on those probably next week though there won’t be much need for too many maps for this one. I’ve spent the past couple days working out plot details and fine-tuning my characters for this book since several new ones will be introduced. I’ve kept a notebook by the bed so I can write down ideas before I fall asleep and forget them. I’m feeling vaguely prepared, but I still have reservations. This’ll be the first time in a long time (since I was twelve, I think) that I’ve tried writing a book directly on the computer rather than in a notebook. When I was in France, it was out of necessity that I use paper because I barely had access to computers. I got used to this style and decided to continue it with the other novels. However, for simplicity’s sake, I’m going to make an attempt at putting all of this in a word processor directly as opposed to secondarily. Madness, I tell you. I’m no luddite, really; I simply love the feel, smell, and look of paper and ink. Regardless, it’ll be a new experience all around.
I did want to toss up my book’s (current) synopsis in case any of you (the two or three who come to this site) are curious. It’s what I posted on my NaNoWriMo page (accessible via the link in the left column), but because so many NaNoWriMo writers are accessing their page at the moment, it’s rather impossible to navigate. So here’s my synopsis, and I see that I’ve got five minutes before midnight (according to the clock on the wall). Comments are welcome!!
The third novel in a series, this novel continues in the life of young magician apprentice Solennelle and her Devil mentor O. Sol’s Elf friend pops up unexpectedly at their home in the royal castle on a trip to gather wand materials. Sol, having recently just read a book about wand making asks to go with Erra the Elf on her journeys. O agrees, and Sol and Erra head off to other worlds to find wand materials and to have fun. The pair explore a petrified forest only to discover that it’s the home of a basilisk…the hard way. Erra is turned to stone before Sol can transport them to safety. Sol is determined to find a way to bring her friend back to life. The answer lies in competing in a magical tournament where the prize is a wish granted. With the help of her mentor and some friends, Sol trains to compete in the tournament. She must win if she ever wants to see Erra alive again.
