This morning (bright and early!) I went in to the temp agency to turn in my folder of paperwork and show her my passport (I still need to get that renewed; I like visiting other places) to verify that yup, I’m me and I’m an American. Then I watched a short informational video about safety on the job. Since there’s so much industry around here (between the engine factory and furniture factory among others), it was predominately about safety around machinery, chemicals, and forklifts. (Anyone ever see that hilarious German safety video about forklifts? That was funny. I wonder if I could find that again…) Then I read the agency’s standard operations book. After that was a short quiz with true/false and short answer questions. Once done with that, I turned it in. (By the way, it was easy. I learned a lot of that stuff while working at Hardee’s back in the day; except for the forklifts–Hardee’s didn’t have those.)
She told me that the company she told me about is setting up interviews, so I should hear from her again either tomorrow or early next week about a time for the interview. If I don’t get the position as office assistant at that place, then they’ve got my résumé and info for when another position comes along. All in all, a relatively short morning. I spent about an hour there then came home to the husband and cat.
As a quick update as to what I did yesterday: I crocheted. WoW was having lots of problems early on in the day and then the servers were going up and down for a good portion of the early afternoon. (Seriously, looking at their realm status page was like watching a string of blinking Christmas tree lights.) So I crocheted, watched The Tick cartoon until the mail came whereupon I watched the Netflix movie that came in (it was the final episode to V: The Final Battle) and went back to watching The Tick. In that time, I finished seven eyeballs and got the bottom halves of another five done. I figure if I work on them off-and-on today (i.e., while my character is flying from city to city in WoW), I can get a few more eyes done. Once I finish the top halves of the five I’ve started, I’ll be ready to take pictures and put them all up on Etsy. Then it’s onto spiders, then bats (now that I’m closer to getting a good pair of wings figured out), then cats (once I learn how to make them at all). Did I mention at some point that I also figured out how to make a tomato pincushion ball? Maybe; I can’t remember. Once I’m done with the Halloween mess, I might try making a few more of those though they are more difficult.
There’s my update. Now it’s back to the World of Warcraft and to eyeballs. I’m thinking I might turn the boob tube on as well. I like the Discovery channel, and the Food Network. I also watch quite a bit of the History channel. Those are my big three: Discovery, Food Network and History. Sometimes I’ll add Sci Fi and Spike, but just when my big three don’t have anything I haven’ seen before. 😀 Later!
good to know:
it's great to have the updates on your job hunting. Erin, do you know who "Mom of 4" is who is writing on Katie's blog? Does Katie know her? Check out today's comments from her on Katie's blog…I'm scared to ask Katie on her site as I don't want "mom" to take off on me!
Pester:
If you don't get it make it your business to pester them at least once a week about assignments. A tuesday or wednsday will work.
Oh Momof4 is a troll:
A troll is a person who just likes to cause trouble and if you ignore them, they usually go away. My friend Steph has never stepped down from a fight in her life so the two of them sometimes go at in the comments.
Yeah, ouch:
That lady seems to have some issues. I had started reading through all the comments last night when the debate started so I ended up stopping and not getting around to posting until now. She does seem vehement.
I'd thought about commenting on your site about it, but I think it's safer on mine. 😉 I was just wondering whether the constant paper signing is the teachers' idea or the administrators' fault. Believe me, I had to send lots of crap home to parents and then check it once it got back because the administration was under pressure from the state school board to do something about various issues because the federal government put pressure on them… Teachers are really the end of the line for random and bizarre policies and are generally stuck following procedures they themselves would never have come up with. I have to say I sympathize with the teachers though. You've got five kids to sign papers for, they've got about thirty kids each all bringing those silly papers back that they have to keep up on or their administrators will start driving them crazy that they're not doing their jobs, plus they've still got lesson plans and actual grading to do each night. Will they accept initials maybe?
Local vs Federal:
I would definitely like planning and control of many things go from Federal government to local government (maybe state). The federal government is much to big to be micro manageing things like this. I'd also rather pay my taxes to the state or county than to the federal.
Love, Dad
I think that makes sense:
There are a lot of things I think the State level would be better with than the Federal, and education is one of them. Each state knows what the major issues are and is better equipped to handle them. There are a lot of things that could be decentralized. I think lots of countries go through this debate between a strong centralized government and decentralization. France has been going through this for a while now too.
Already going through it:
Thank Reagan for the program problems, he basically dumped a lot programs like education and healthcare onto the states and said if you want em, pay for em. Of course a lot of states can't keep up and that's why most of them are running billion dollar benefits.
