Well, been a bit since I’ve updated. That happens. Lessee what’s been going on in the Doyle household. Friday night, Rook came over for some help with his economics homework. He and his group are making a miniature version of a theater, and he needed help making an arcade game and a popcorn machine. I’ve got the arts and crafts stuff and skill, so I helped him turn his design ideas into reality. I should have taken pictures ’cause they turned out real cute. I even made him a wall clock out of a beer cap and some paper. 🙂 He had originally intended upon leaving Saturday but stuck around because he needed Ian’s help with installing an LED in the popcorn maker and Ian didn’t get off work until late. We ended up keeping him for most of Sunday too because of the windstorm.
Ah, the windstorm. Twenty-five to thirty-five mile an hour winds with gusts reaching up to sixty-five. The trees looked like half trees because their limbs were all blown to one side. We don’t have many trees in or around our yard. The only tree that’s square in our yard and isn’t shared with the neighbors is a maple that was pruned back to the trunk last fall. The limbs were all just making a good come-back when this windstorm knocked about six or seven branches clean off, breaking another half dozen which dangle from the tree by fibrous cords. Needless to say, that poor maple has seen better days. There are tons of branches down all over the neighborhood, and some trees around town were practically blown to the ground. Yeah, the windstorm was bizarre, and we weren’t about to let Rook drive a minivan with a raised profile into winds that could knock him off the road. In the end, it gave me an opportunity to help him with his French homework. 🙂
For the most part, I’d say a consistent theme for much of the weekend and yesterday has been the grey skies. There’s been some rain, but not much. Generally, it’s just grey and much, much cooler. We’ve opened the windows since the AC was no longer kicking on and it was as cool inside as out. May as well get some fresh air then. Of course, the bedroom–always a few degrees colder than the rest of the house–was really, really cold when I went to bed this morning around six, so I piled on an extra blanket and was happy to have the cat on my legs. Now it’s just after eleven and I’m using Kitty as a head warmer (she’s on the back of the couch leaning on my neck), and I have one of my little crocheted blankets on my lap. Today would be a good day to work on afghans, and since I’ve got two in the works, I’ve got plenty to keep me busy while the World of Warcraft servers are down for their weekly updates and maintenance.
So there you have it. A few grey days bleeding into each other to where I’m kind of confused as to which day it is. That’s nothing unusual though. I think the lack of sun makes my brain cells groggier than usual. Stupid SAD. 😛 At any rate, I might go put socks on and forego my usual barefootedness for warmth. Crazy!
Sedatives?:
SAD? Is that like a sedative? I'll be sure to bring them over someday so you can take pictures. To tell you the truth I think they glued the clock in a funny angle. That wind kicked fucking ass though. I kind of wished I'd just stood outside, just to feel it.
Sedatives?!:
With my low blood pressure and non-existant life, yeah, sedatives are all I need. No, SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder where the season (and even weather) screw with my systems.
And I'm glad we could help with the project, even if your group memebers glued it together wrong. 🙂
And the wind was amazing, but there's no way you should have been driving in it. Standing's fine, driving no. Even experienced drivers would have had problems with that wind, and you are in no way an experienced driver. :b Maybe the next time it's that windy you can just go blow around the yard or something. I'm sure the wind could take you. 😉
