Well, yesterday I went shopping for quite a while, hitting four different stores looking for things for Golden Snail Designs. As Katie suggested, I picked up a scale so I could accurately portray shipping and handling prices. Since I’ll eventually be mailing (hopefully) entire afghans, I needed one that could hold more than just five pounds. There were lots of scales for two to five pounds, and only one that went up to fifty. Guess which one I got? This was at Staples, and I picked up a ledger thingie there as well so I can pretend that I’m organized, keeping track of what all I buy, how much of it I buy, and how much I buy it for as well as how much in supplies each project takes and how long each project takes. I’d like to think it’s organization, but really it looks like more of the same insanity that the rest of my notebooks do.
So at Wally World I picked up safety goggles because despite the fact that I think I have a boring eye color, I still like my eyes and I like them without bits of debris or sawdust in them. I’m going to be attempting to use the Dremel some this weekend, and as I learned from the Ringwalds in a roundabout way, “safety first.” It saves time later trying to get fingers reattached or giant spinters removed. I also picked up some more basic craft supplies though once I got home I realized I forgot one, d’oh. I wrote all that stuff down in my ledger later.
Then I hit Ben Franklins because Wal-Mart didn’t have any polymer clay that I could find, nor did they have Shrinky Dinks, that plastic paper you color on, cut out and bake to create little charms, etc. Ben Franklins had both, and I bought both. I played with the shrink paper for quite a while last night, creating some largish snails and some smaller snails. They’re cute. I’ll probably make more later because I like tracing and coloring.
Since Ben Franklins is right next to (or rather, two doors down fron) a True Value hardware store, I wandered in there next, hoping to find the last item on my list: a Dremel cutting guide. Unfortunately, despite all the Dremel attachments they have, they don’t have that one. I’ll end up ordering it on-line later, I guess. No biggie, I order lots of stuff on-line.
So at some point in all this making-stuff-for-Golden-Snail-Designs mess, I’ll be looking into lumber and varnish as well as a lot more yarn and buttons. It’s making me want to gather all the crafts stuff from the closet and finish rifling through it all so I can better assess what I have and don’t have for the projects I’m working on. Fun!
So now I leave you with the snail that I drew for the Golden Snail Designs stuff. At some point, I need to make this into a banner and business cards and logos and. . . Well, you get the point. There’s a lot to do. When am I going to crochet?
