The husband and I did a little shopping yesterday. The impromptu shopping session was sparked by yet another dropped call on my cell phone. I like my cell phone, for the most part. It lets me take pictures, use an old video game song for my ringtone, and since we recently picked up a memory card for it, it even lets me keep craploads of music on it that I really don’t ever listen to. Yeah, a decent phone but it drops calls all the time. I’m not gonna say it drops half the calls, but it’s sure a large number, and I bitch about it a lot because it happens a lot. So after dropping a call with Dad and not being able to get my reception back for several minutes although Ian’s phone (exact same model) had full bars, Ian decided we were going to go out and get a cheapie phone to either temporarily or permanently replace my cranky one. On the way to Radio Shack, I decided we should also hit Wal-Mart and look for another DVD tower like the one the Doyles gave us for Christmas because we really like it and wanted to have more room for our CDs as well. So we hit Wal-Mart, picking up a tower as well as sugar, tea (Ian’s Nas-Tea), white wine and Kaluha. Oddly, we didn’t run into any of my former students on this Wally World trip. Every other time I’ve picked up alcohol or alcohol-related stuff, I’ve run into students. At any rate, after Wal-Mart, we hit Radio Shack where Damien sold us a little ATT GO Phone. It’s what’s called a “candy bar” phone as opposed to a “flip” phone like I had. It can’t take pictures, use an old video game song for my ringtone, or hold a memory card to keep craploads of music on it that I probably wouldn’t ever listen to. It’s a pretty decent phone regardless, and I’ve already gone through changing the background and colors and ringtones and all that. Since we pulled the uh, SIM? SMM? Whatever card chipie-thingie out of my flip phone and stuck it in this phone, I have all my phone numbers. Technically, they’re all Ian’s phone numbers so there are several in my address book (why do they call it that on a phone?) that I’ll likely never call. No biggie.
So we came home with our new stuff, and like I said, I reconfigured the little phone. I also put together the DVD tower while watching Damien’s Buffy DVDs. My hands both hurt pretty bad (being ambidextrous means I can divide the chore of screwing in forty screws between hands) and my forearms are a little sore. That tower has a lot of screws in it. I’m used to nailing the back of bookshelves and the like on, but this one had 34 screws holding the back on. I should have just grabbed some nails and used them instead. Meh, it’s assembled and has most of our CDs on it. The first four shelves are alphabetically by group or artist. Then there’s a shelf of musicals. Under that is a shelf with soundtracks and music from TV shows with the other half being Irish music. Under that are two shelves of classical CDs. Hooray for organization! Ian has a lot of CDs still on his desk, but they’ll be integrated with the rest soon enough. It’s nice finally having all our CDs in one place, and in order. There are a lot of times that I really want to hear a particular song but couldn’t figure out where the CD was because they got split up so much in the move. Now I want to organize all our video game discs. 🙂 I’d love to get all of our books organized, but seeing as how we’ve got uh, I dunno, a ton, it probably won’t happen for a while.
So since my hands hurt a lot from assembling that CD tower, I’m probably not going to be crocheting today. I kind of want to type up more of my first novel or work on the second one, but again with the achy hands. I guess I could play WoW, but that involves my hands as well. Hmm, I guess that’s part of the human condition: having opposable thumbs does kind of make our hands one of the most important tools we have. Meh, I’ll uh, read a book? Have a fun day!
Fun!:
I think it's called a "contact" list on a cell phone. I need a new phone too but I'm too cheap (and lazy) to buy one too.
New phones:
Mom and Rook just got new phones. Mom's phone never did work just right (I think 'HUH" became Mom's most used word). Simon always complained about reception but that may be partially caused by not charging the phone (Dead phones don't receive well).
Love, Dad
