Cool day

Wednesday was a great day because so much fun stuff happened. The day started off with me continuing my spring cleaning. I’ve been working on cleaning up a lot of the boxes that have been sitting in one corner of our living room since we moved in. I’ve done quite a bit with it as well as cleaning up my desk, and I’ve even started on the bedroom which really hasn’t been touched at all. Plus I started laundry. Ian mopped the dining room floor, cleaned the stove and washed dishes. Woo cleaning!

Then Katie came over after dropping the kids off at Vacation Bible School up in LGT. We chit-chatted for a while and I showed her that crazy-looking knit thing I made. Ian and I took her out to eat at the Schnitzelbank, a great German restaurant here in town. She even took a picture of her food, hehe. Then we came back to the house and hung out for a while before she had to run back up and get the kids. It was a fun visit, and it’s so cool having Katie back in Indiana. Now Sarah’s the only one who hasn’t seen our place here in Jasper. Not a huge deal because we’ll probably just be moving again this fall. Still, it’s nice having family over.

And more family did come over yesterday. Tommy swung by in his huge, cool truck to pick up a belt and some green beans that Mom had given to Katie to bring down to give to Tommy. We chit-chatted in the kitchen for a while and then he headed out ’cause he had the long drive back to Bramble. I don’t get to see Tommy enough but it’s fun when I do get to catch up with him for a while.

Ian had conked out not long after Katie left, and once Tommy left, I went back to crocheting granny squares. I spent the whole rest of the afternoon and evening just making granny squares. These squares have three layers: the center color, the second color around that and then the border color in the final two layers. I started 78 squares yesterday and then got through the second color on about 20 of those squares. Fun! Guess what I’m planning on doing more of today? 🙂

To continue the German food theme for the day, I made chicken and spaetzle soup like Gramdma Ringwald made. The spaetzle didn’t turn out all that great, to be honest, but I think it has something to do with the fact that the flour was really lumpy and I probably over-mixed it as a result. It was still decent though, and when Damien came over after he got off work, I put some in a plastic bowl with a lid for him. He came over for some dip which I made while he watched Ian play WoW. My dip is just Katie’s dip (cream cheese, salsa, chili, and cheddar cheese baked in the over) with bleu cheese added to it. We ate the dip and everyone was happy. Whee! Damien was happy to have leftovers to take home because that’s a meal he doesn’t have to worry about fixing. 🙂 Ian and I like having Damien over, and Damien likes eating whatever we fix, hehe.

All in all, between all the cleaning and crocheting, it was a great visit with Katie, Tommy, and Damien. Kitty was pretty well behaved (though she did smack Katie in the head a lot from the back of the couch behind where Katie was sitting, but she does that to me and Ian all the time) and is now in a tent Ian made for her on the futon now that we don’t need it for company. I wish the place could have been a little cleaner, but it’s not too bad. I might get some more cleaning done today in between all the crocheting. Lots of fun!

Also, I’d like to wish Mom a belated birthday. Since summer started, I’ve pretty well lost track of what day of the week it is let alone what the date is. Which means I also want to wish Dad an even more belated happy father’s day. Maybe I should put a calendar on the wall next to me, eh? At any rate, have a good day (whatever day it is today) and have fun!
