Busy day

Let’s see, I’ve done laundry, spent the last six hours on work stuff, and started a big pot of chili. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m just allergic to onions because despite the fact that I didn’t chop the nasty little thing (the mom-in-law gave me a mini food processor for the expressed purpose of dealing with the horrid little vegetable) and despite the fact that it was oh, about an hour ago that I messed with the onion at all, it’s still stinging my eyes so much it hurts to look at well, anything. I watch tons of cooking shows and they all go on and on and on about how “sweet” onions are and how you can bring their sweetness out if you do this or this or whatever, but I’ve never thought any onion I’ve ever eaten was sweet. They’re nasty bitter little buggers that leave a disgusting aftertaste that can be gotten rid of only with an excessive amount of garlic. Luckily, I like garlic. The funny thing is that they’re in the same family. Of course, onions are just full of sulphur, and maybe that’s the problem.

At any rate, the onion stink is still lingering in the air, and I think it’s getting to the cat as well. She suddenly developed a very teary eye almost like she’s crying, and so I’ve resorted to opening windows with the goal of clearing the sulphurous stink from the air. You know how hard it is to get a toddler to blow his/her nose? Yeah, trying wiping a cat’s face with a Kleenex. I’d open the windows more, but the weather is really iffy and the winds have been kicking up pretty hard, blowing the sporadic rain into the house.

At any rate, I meant to clean the fish tank today but that looks like it’s going to have to wait until tomorrow. For now, it’s back to work and stirring a big pot of Ian’s chili (which he isn’t fixing but it is his recipe). I’m going to go open another window.

    2 Types:

Actually there are two types of sweet onions, Vidalia Sweet Onions and Bermuda Sweet Onions. They are horrid, even for onions.

I hope the chili was at least good:

I cheat and buy dehydrated onions. They are in the same section as spices and I just add a bit of water to whatever amount I need (or throw them in dry in soups and stuff) and call it a day.
