It begins

Well, as of tomorrow, I’ll officially begin the school year. Tomorrow is the first of the in-service teacher days, which means a day full of meetings and random other business. I’m going to try and grab the English teacher who taught the senior English/novels that I’m teaching this year so I can finally get a syllabus or something to work from. I think I’ve got the speech class figured out because the only speech book I found in the room (and believe me, I’ve gone over that room so many times, I’d’ve found other speech books by now) has a syllabus which I figure I’ll use or at least use as a basis. The French materials have quite a bit of built-in lesson plans and quizzes and tests, so I should be OK there too. I think that Ian might run down Friday (I need to call him and talk to him about that) but otherwise, I’m spending the weekend typing up lesson plans and syllabi and getting organized for the first week next week. Madness!

It is crazy that I’m not only teaching high school but that I’m teaching at LGT, but back when I was in high school, that was one of my original plans. I figured I could get a degree in English and teach at the high school. It made sense then. Then I discovered Speech Language Pathology and thought I’d do that at the school. Once at college though, I dropped the Speech Path for English Ed with a minor in French, then decided I like French better so I flip-flopped them. For a very long time, it was my intention to teach at a high school, but the education program and a couple teachers in particular irritated me enough to where I just couldn’t stand being in the program anymore. I find it fascinating that I’ve pretty well come full circle. I am going to be teaching English at my old high school. It’s crazy how life is convoluted like this.

At any rate, it’s getting vaguely late and I need to get up really early tomorrow to grab salad materials at the store or something for the first in-service day tomorrow. We’re doing a cook-our or something…Or something is right. It’s going to be over a hundred degrees out there with all the humidity. It’ll be interesting to see if it just gets moved inside. At any rate, I’ll catch you later and maybe get around to posting about my first day officially on the job, even if it’s not in the classroom. 🙂

And if I don’t get a chance to post it tomorrow: Happy birthday, Zach! I hope you have an awesome tenth birthday, big guy! Happy birthday!

    Have a great first day!:

And Zach says thanks. Or at least I think that's what he said since he's mumbling at his new DS…
