It’s official

I am now officially out of a job. Dr. Dunbar just called about ten minutes ago to inform me that they had found a woman who is qualified to teach graduate-level classes, so obviously she’ll be qualified to teach the upper-level classes which I apparently cannot. I have to be out of the office by the beginning of August, which shouldn’t be a problem as I had already starting moving stuff out, knowing that this was a very likely outcome. C’est la vie. And oddly, today I was feeling a bit better. Yesterday, I had something of a cold/sinuses and therefore was pretty well out of comission all day. Today, I woke up feeling better (having spent half of yesterday sleeping) and was starting on the laundry when the call came. I figure I’ll try to remember to call Dr. Baker later this afternoon about advising or University 101, and there’s always the prospect of tutoring all fall. I seriously think I’ll spend the next couple weeks working on my application to IU Bloomington for their Masters in Library Science program for the spring. After all, it wouldn’t be hard to get excellent letters of recommendation; everyone who knows me at ISU loves me. Well, faculty and staff do; I’m not as sure about the students themselves.

Ian had been sleeping on the couch when the call came, and he heard the conversation, so he knew the verdict without me saying anything. His response: he’s glad that I’ll no longer be teaching French. At least, he clarified, I won’t be teaching French under those particular circumstances. He’s right, and I’m also kind of glad I won’t be teaching French this fall. I was sort of dropped into it and had to fight my way through much of it as a result. Besides, it’s not the level of language learning that I want to contend with, although I’m grateful for the experience.

At any rate, it’s time for laundry and making some tea. I figure I’ll go in Monday to start cleaning my books and files out of the office. Saturday is going to be eaten up by reading Harry Potter and Sunday is DnD with the guys. I’ll probably be out of the office by Wednesday. It was fun while it lasted.
