I haven’t been sleeping all that well lately, thanks to stress and so forth, and so being awake last night around 2:30 am wasn’t odd. I was fairly close to drifting off when I heard clamoring from the other end of the hallway. At first, I thought it was Kitty having trouble getting out of her new litterbox (It is rather deep.), but then she came thundering down the hallway, nails grating across the hardwood floors as she came charging like a rhinoceros toward a cameraman. It was dark–go figure–and Ian was downstairs conked out on the couch so there was no light coming from the first floor, so it was just me and a flying furrball going crazy by the door of the bedroom. I sat up, trying to figure out why she was still going wild, and after a few minutes of her running from alcove, under the dresser, back to the door and then into the closet, I determined she wasn’t playing with laundry but was hunting something. My immediate thought was that she had a mouse since she never gets that worked up over spiders or crickets. My reaction to this realization? I scoffed at her to kill the damn thing so I could go to sleep. Very responsible, I know. She chased it around, played with it, and knocked it around for about a half an hour. After a while, she appeared to lose it because she wandered off only to come back an hour later when I actually was asleep, waking me up so I could hear more of her escapades. After another ten minutes of this, I finally talked myself out of the idea that it was a mouse when I didn’t hear any scurrying except for Kitty’s. When Ian came to bed, I muttered something to him about Kitty running manoevers and then went back to sleep. I woke up this morning around eight with the cat standing over my head staring intently at the miniblinds above our heads. Not wanting to deal with Kitty in the morning, especially not after a night of such insanity, I dragged my blanket out from under her and the husband and made my way downstairs to finish sleeping on the couch. When I woke up, Ian was downstairs where he informed me as to the end of the hunt. Wanna see? Hop over to Ian’s page to read the ending!
