I’ve been working a bit on the presentation I’m going to give tomorrow for a movie, and since I’ll be talking about slang and swearing, I dragged out the Thesis (aka Jerry) to flip through the appendixes (for some odd reason the grad school doesn’t use “appendices”) for a few choice words to use as demonstration for the audience. Since Jerry’s out on the desk, I got to thinking about how there’s a copy of my thesis in the library and that meant that I had my own LC call number! So I went to the Cunningham Memorial Library’s webpage to look for Jerry, and sure enough, he has been catalogued and I have my own entry! I have my own author entry and my own book entry as well as my own call number! It’s so exciting! I can’t seem to get a direct link to the entry, so just type “French pejorative suffixes” into the quick search or do an author browse for Doyle. So cool!
Oh, and if you want to know what yesterday’s post said, here’s a quickie translation:
Well! It’s absolutely impossible to think right now. To tell the truth, it’s always difficult to think after classes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The problem is that my head is always in clouds of French and above all my brain is full of thoughts about lessons and homework. My students have so many questions that each day I have a river of ink on the back of my hand to just remember several of them. Today, I want only to crochet because I have five pillows that I’m making for my nephews and nieces, so that’s a lot to do! I’ve already made half of them, but there’s still a lot of sewing even after doing all the crocheting. I have a pile of squares at home in pink, blue, green, purple, red and yellow. Have I forgotten something? Probably. I really have a brain drain!
And what’s worse is the fact that I have so much to grade but next week most of my classes are having tests again. Me, I really need a long vacation. No kidding, I need to sleep and rest more. I don’t want winter break yet because they’re too busy in and of themselves, but Thanksgiving break will help me out a lot, I hope. OK, I want to go home now so I’m going to leave the office and go find tea or Mello Yello. I need to eat too. If I remember, I’ll translate this post. If not, well, you’ll live.
And Dad’s trilingual. He’s got Spanish, Italian and English all in one comment! Go Dad! 🙂
Fame:
We'll look back one day and think, "Man, Jerry was only the beginning."
And hopefully there's not a clock-tower in the looking back.
