Day half over

Well I must say that the presentations this morning went far more smoothly than I expected. They were a pleasant change of pace from the normal classroom activities, so the students were much more active as well. Plus, the sun’s out which means warmer temperatures and warmer responses from everyone around here. Hell, I’m even feeling less harried and frazzled than usual though I’m still not sleeping well. At least today I didn’t have to teach class since the students were presenting and teaching us about random French things. Of course, three hours in a row of student presentations was a bit much. I do, however, now have in my possession a number of student-made posters because many of them decided they didn’t want their posters. I suggested I might take a couple to use as examples for next year, and suddenly I was swamped with random posters on French composers, food, monuments, and novels. I’ll probably sift through them and keep a few, skeletonize a few others for pictures then scrap the rest.

For now, however, I’m just happy to have just completed my last class of the day. Of course, the day’s not over yet as there’s the Knit Wit meeting at four and then the French movie at 7. That means two hours here in my office while waiting for the Knit Wit meeting then an hour between that meeting and the movie, but that’s time I can spend cleaning up my office, surfing on-line (though this ancient computer doesn’t lend itself well to surfing), or even just crocheting. I’m leaning towards playing with scissors and construction paper. I think I’ll make little construction paper clothes (two of my classes are learning about clothes and colors) and little construction paper money. I’m also going to eventually get around to making BINGO games for various topics (food, clothes, numbers, etc.) as a way to review vocabulary. Of course, in order to do any of this, I’m going to have to dig my desk out from under piles of posterboard and essays. Maybe I’ll just crochet.

Tomorrow’s going to be long like today, but less irritatingly so. I have a meeting at eight in the morning (@#$%^&* morning meetings) then office hours from eleven to two and then I have to help out with the French film at seven. At least tomorrow I’ll have plenty of time to head home for a while between the office hours and the movie. I really don’t have too much time today because I think it’s silly to go home for essentially an hour only to turn around and come back here when I could just stay put and do something productive around the office. Besides, if I don’t go home, I don’t wake Ian up when I walk in because I’m sure he’s passed out on one of the couches right now. He’s so cute when he’s sleeping; I’d hate to disturb that.

I think I’ll go make tea now and then play with paper or yarn. It’s too bad I didn’t bring a change of clothes (or at least a change of shoes) for sitting around in the office. I guess I’ll survive until nine in my work clothes. Bleach.
