Insurance!

I have insurance! I have life insurance, health insurance, dental insurance, and eyeballs insurance! Well, I will have once the paperwork goes through and it becomes effective in October, but still, it’s kind of exciting. This is the first job I’ve ever had where I get benefits like insurance. I don’t know how much normal insurance costs, but I think that what I’ll be paying sounds good especially since I can include me and the husband on it. The life insurance is free to me since the university pays for that, and the health insurance sounded good (especially since we’ve been without for far too long now) and wasn’t an arm and a leg, so I grabbed it up too. I just wish Sarah were here to explain this stuff to me; she’s the insurance genius in the family and could give me a better idea as to what stuff like “deductible” and “predetermination” and “tempromandibular joint” are. I speak French and English, a little German, but no Greek and this is all Greek to me. How about I just don’t get sick or die and let the insuarance take care of itself? 🙂 I figure I’ll go over this with Ian later tonight. The lady in HR did a pretty good job of going over all the random details, but it was far too much for me to take in all at once especially since I didn’t understand all the jargon. I do see on one of these forms though that I can get my boobs back if I get a mastectomy. Random tidbit there. Oh well, time to get to work typing up an exam or three for tomorrow’s French classes. Maybe I’ll see if I can sneak a question in there somewhere about insurance, hehe.

Oh, random aside, the lady I talked to was very impressed with Sarah getting a job with Afflack (How’s that spelled?) in Erie so soon after graduating, and she was also very impressed with the purse Katie knitted me a while back. She wants one herself, lol. OK, back to work. 🙂

    tempromandibular joint?:

What is this? Don't think it ever came up before when I was talking nsurance with anyone. By the way, you had some life insurance (actually still have it)before but it was only a little more than a funeral would cost. Congrats on the insurance.

    Love Dad

    Bonitis:

Oh no, that's a symptom of bonitis when the skeleton tries to jump out of the body through the mouth!

Insurance rocks. I think I might call Manpower and see how much their insurance would cost.

    Insurance is good stuff:

It's Aflac (American Family Life Assurance Company of Columbus). We had an ISU HR person in my insurance capstone course, and I agree that ISU's benefit plan is very good. Of course there's always room for Aflac. When we move back to Indiana I'll hit ISU up to start offering it. 😉

    Brief explanation:

You had no health problems before now. If you have a doctor of record, you want to switch and tell the next guy that you've never had a doctor of record. Any and every health problem you have is a new one which most certainly was not pre-existing.

🙂 And welcome to the benefits club!
