Today’s been long. The laundromat, the BMV (the license plate tags were expired; something I’ve got to get used to is ‘Doyle’ updates in March whereas ‘Ringwald’ was closer to the end of the year), then to Public Safety for a parking tag and new ID. Oddly, as I was pulling into a lot on campus, two officers were out putting tickets on cars. They came over to where I parked and mentioned that my tag was expired when I got out. Of course, when I got out, I was also holding my vehicle registration in my hands, so I told them I was on my way to get a new tag immediately. So they didn’t give me a ticket. Yay for them! Also oddly, while I easily got a parking tag for faculty, I couldn’t get a faculty ID because the system still has me listed as a student. I figured as much. I didn’t really expect them to get it right on the first try since there was so much difficulty with switching me over to my last position too. But at least I got my hang tag so I can park a little closer to my building. I’ve never had problems finding parking before as a student, and I doubt I’ll have any problems as faculty. After all, I don’t care if I can’t park in the lot next to my building. Parking further away just means more exercise. 😉
So after getting the hang tag, I ran back up to the minivan in the northern lot (i.e. furthest lot from Public Safety) and stuck it to my rearview. Then I grabbed my posters and tote and went to my building to find the secretary to let me into my room since there’s still no key for it yet. I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to get my desk organized and putting up posters to make the place feel more at home. I covered two walls with posters and took a few pics, but the camera cable is downstairs and I don’t feel much like getting it right now. Maybe I’ll post pics tomorrow along with a run-down of my first day teaching French. I spent about two hours there then came home. I talked with Ian a bit, got the mail, took out the trash, put the laundry away, took a shower, and then realized that I didn’t make photocopies of all my syllabus for my classes. Whoops. Well, shit happens. I need to print off the originals again anyway since I gave my other copies to Keri and Dr. Calvin (the professor in charge of all the Basic Studies courses in the department; three of the classes I’m teaching fall under Basic Studies). I teach at nine, and I think that if I can manage to get there at eight, I might just have a shot at getting copies made before my first class. I won’t have another chance to make copies after that until noon since I teach at nine, ten, and eleven. A pretty full morning. My last class is at one, and then I’ll probably retire to my room for a cuppa tea and some snoozing. Speaking of tea, I should go make some. It might help to get some of the aches out of my muscles from all the running around today. Phew!
So the rest of the night (for however long I can manage to stay awake) will be spent watching more X-files and working on lesson plans for next week. At some point, I should probably eat something more than a few Doritos and carrots. The last substantial thing I ate was about 12:30 and was just a turkey sandwich, part of which I fed to the cat. Food might not be a bad idea. I’ll go play with that and tea. Otherwise, tomorrow is taking up what brain cells I’m not using to watch my series.
