Defense

Sung to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell:”

I’m going to defend

I’m going to defend

Hi-ho the Jerry-o

I’m going to defend!

Well, time to get dressed, drug myself up (for allergies, sinuses, and arthritis), and get my shit together to defend soon! I’m also going to need to get a bottle of water or soda or something because my throat is raw from all the talking I did yesterday during the non-stop advising session. I saw maybe two or three OP students (my department), and probably sixteen or seventeen AOP students (not my department). The secretaries were incredibly impressed by all the work I did, and Susan was impressed, but none of the AOP advisors stopped by to thank me for seeing all their students, which was kind of disappointing. At any rate, it’s done and over with, and that’s the last time I’ll have to do that kind of insanity for this semester, maybe ever! Once the defense is done today, I’ll be one step closer to graduating which means I can teach French rather than University 101. It also means I won’t be an advisor anymore (which is sad), but it does mean I won’t have to be on campus full-time. Just teach four classes, have some office hours, and I’m good! The rest of my time can be spent grading papers, hehe. So onto the defense! Then lunch with my profs and friends. Good times!
