Despite the fact that all the students have gone home and there’s really nothing to do here at the office this week, I’m still here every day from 8 to 4:30 at my desk. At least Heather’s here still and we can keep each other company. I’ve brought my laptop in today and plan on watching movies (Mummy, Boondock Saints and A Christmas Story) while cross-stitching up a few last gifts. Yesterday was spent grading all the final exams from my two classes. They did pretty well. A few As, mostly Bs and Cs, a couple Ds and a few Fs. Pretty Bell-curvy, really. A few of the answers to the questions were simply hilarious and I am going to share them here:
Q: What terrorist organization was founded after the Civil War to prevent ex-slaves from exercising their civil rights? [Correct answer: the KKK]
A: Communist Party
Q: What terrorist organization was founded after the Civil War to prevent ex-slaves from exercising their civil rights?
A: The KKK was founded and based on the ghosts of confederate soldiers who wanted revenge.
Q: What two other universities in Indiana began as branch campuses of ISU? Where are each located? [Correct answer: Ball State-Muncie, USI-Evansville]
A: IU Bloomington / Muncie
IUPUI / Indianapolis
Q: What is the oldest original building on campus? Which two buildings are older? [Correct answer: Normal Hall. Fairbanks Hall and the Condit House]
A: Archives. Fairbanks and Haunted House.
Other bizarre spellings for the Condit House include: Cognate, Court, Conduct, and Cadit. Mind you, there were twenty short answer questions but they only had to answer ten of them, so there was no reason for anyone to feel they had to answer these questions…except for the students who answered all twenty because they didn’t bother reading the instructions. Had they read the instructions, I’m sure that a lot more of them would have gotten far better grades since I counted the first ten that were finished whether they missed them or not. The exact same thing tripped them up on the midterm, and I suppose that my explaining that to them then did nothing for them now, nor did the fact that I told them how many questions they’d be answering in class or that they should read the directions. Kids. Go figure.
At any rate, the grades are all turned in, and I’d say it’s time to make some tea and watch a movie. I’m thinking The Mummy’s Ghost. Time to cross stitch! Have a great day, everyone else who’s not at work or in class right now. For the rest of you who are still working, well, you’re not alone. 🙂
Heh:
