So I had a bunch of exams still to grade but not really a whole lot so I spent the morning trying to grade and respond to e-mails and help get organized for the Major Fair today but all that was kinda hard to do at the same time and then I had a student come in and chit-chat for about an hour or so about random stuff like tea and phobias and teaching English in high schools and Dr. Perrin and ack more stuff . . . <Breathes in> I didn’t get all of my afternoon’s classes tests graded by the time I had to go to my morning class and I disappointed my morning class by telling them that I couldn’t give them their tests back because one student in the class has yet to take the exam and around that time our guest speaker from the Counseling Center showed up and she talked really really fast for about five minutes or so and there weren’t any questions afterward so I just answered random questions that my students had about Study Week and the difference between “payed” and “paid” and blah blah I finally let them go early so they could get to the Majors Fair . . . <Breathes in> I went to the Majors Fair right after packing up my gear and once there, I sat at a table where I signed students up for the raffle to win a DVD player or a bookstore gift certificate and tried to finish grading the midterm exams for my afternoon class which luckily were half done from my grading spree this morning . . . <Breathes in> Absolutely no time for food or for drinks even though they had popcorn and lemonade there somewhere ’cause hell I didn’t even get a chance to see any of the tables behind me because there were so many students coming in and there were so many papers to grade and there was so little time to do anything except spout “Hi! Sign up for the raffle! All we need is your name and phone number on the raffle ticket; you don’t have to tear it in two; and put it in the blue box because the pumpkin bucket is for candy–help yourself to chocolate! The drawing is at two but you don’t have to be here for that; that’s why the phone number’s on there. No no, the box not the bucket.” <Breathes in> The exams are finally graded and the Fair is winding down and I still have random students from my class wandering in saying hey though I really have to be getting out of there because I teach at two and it’s nearly two so I had to find Susan or Heather to trade me spots so I could leave but I really can’t get up because students keep coming in even though the Majors Fair is practically over and people are leaving in droves all over the place and then finally Susan comes in and I bolt for my class . . . <Breathes in> So I run to my class and I’m there early as always and chit-chat with students about random things as usual before our guest speaker from the Counseling Center arrived again and I handed out the attendance sheet for them to sign while listening to her mile-a-minute presentation which lasted about ten minutes leaving me plenty of time to give them their tests back to peruse while I explained that they mostly got Bs and Cs and that that’s pretty average and therefore good and if they had any questions about particular questions they should ask me now because there will be questions on the final pulled directly from the midterm exam and since no one really has any questions about the exam, I let them all go although one student came back with me to the office so I can reprint an assignment sheet for him just before Heather and Susan make it back with the raffle box and posters and the like <Breathes in> Heather has me help her draw names for the DVD player, gift certificate and blankets and then she goes through the phone book to make sure they’re all really freshman and students here and all that while I start working on this post to try and go through all the hectic-ness of today while waiting on a student to come in to interview me for one of her assignments and while wondering if one of my other students will come in to take her midterm exam like she said she’d try to do this afternoon though she’s not here yet though I have had the student come in for the interview and I have had two students come in to claim their prizes which I’m handling because Heather and Susan both left early so I’m here by myself . . . <Breathes in> So the rest of this afternoon will be spent waiting on the other four prize winners and maybe my student who needs to take her midterm exam and while I’m waiting I’ll be printing off students’ assignments that they’ve been e-mailing me to grade — ack wait another prize winner just came in to get his DVD player and I’m just so tired and I didn’t eat anything until two-thirty when I got back from class and that was just a warm Lunchable and being social takes sooooooo much out of a person especially when that person is avoidant and backwards and dingy like me <Breathes in> Gah! I need a nap or tea or something or just to go away!!
Holy Fuck!:
Wow, may you live in interesting times.
