Ah, my life

Sometimes I don’t realize just how nutsy my life is until I start telling people about everything going on. Recently, we had a local author fair at the library with seven authors. Once the number of patrons dropped off and the authors were sitting around chatting, we came up with the idea that it’d be neat to have a booth during the Strassenfest here in Jasper in August. Since I organized the local author fair, the other authors looked to me to start setting this up. I told them it might not be feasible this close to the fair (after all, lots of organized events like this are set up well enough in advance that registration is due a couple months in advance. Regardless, I pitched the idea to our director who leapt at the notion and decided we should just do it ourselves on the library lawn. This means I have to contact all the authors again and get information on all the books they’ll be selling as well as prices and schedule times for each of them to help man the booth. Then there are the fliers, the banners, getting the location and tables set up, dealing with money and working out advertising… This will keep me fairly occupied until August.

If that were the only thing happening. There is also a genealogy open house during Strassenfest, and I’ll be helping to make signs and banners for that as well as creating an all-new brochure touting the features of the genealogy room in addition to a large display in the glass cases of the genealogy room. Um, well, so I’ll be really occupied until August.

Oh, and then there’s the science fiction writing contest that we’ll have in August. Before then, we’ll have to set up rules, make fliers, contact judges, and advertise. Uhhhh, so I’ll be really very occupied until August.

Oh, then of course there are the usual projects such as making a sign for a book display for both July and August, setting up movies and making fliers for them for both July and August, and the never-ending process of coming up with and writing up project sheets for the crochet club each week. . . Add to that my usual duties of dealing with the accounts handed over to the collection agency as well as checking all new library card applications and the usual routine day-to-day rigamarole of working at a library. . . Well, you get the idea. I’m going to be really very psychotically occupied.

Oh, and I have edited the first fourteen chapters of my novel, have come up with a cover idea that will need to be arranged with the help of about a half dozen other people, and have gotten the chapter quotes chosen for more than half the book. I’d like to have the editing on paper done by the end of this weekend, have all of the edits corrected on the computer by the end of next week so that I can get it ready for uploading to Lulu sooner rather than later. Once Ian and I get the cover ready, I’ll get a copy from Lulu so Ian and Simon can help edit it even further. After that, I’d like to get a half dozen copies bought so I can try to sell them at the book sale. Um, that means I’ve got to get it done in less than two months. In addition to everything else. And at some point I’ve got to sleep, I think. I might wait on that last one until after August. I don’t think I can work it into my schedule before then.
