50k? Check.

Well, some of you may have noticed that my NaNoWriMo word count bar graph to the left of the posts has gone over 50,000 words for this year’s writing event. Woohoo! I did that late last night prior to attempting to go to bed only to get up, play Phoenix Wright games for several hours, and then finally conk out sometime around four. Since getting up, I’ve beaten the game I was playing (for the third time so far), finished a knitted square I started a few days ago, and started yet another square. So far, I’m up to six squares, unless I’m forgetting one. I think the blanket design I came up with will require sixteen small squares and sixteen large squares. I might have lost the pattern, actually. Not surprising considering that half the couch is covered with balls of yarn, pattern books, notebooks, and notecards. Between NaNo and crocheting/knitting, it’s a wonder that I can find a seat on the couch for myself. No wonder the husband is never in the living room: nowhere to sit.

At any rate, while I want to be working on the story to try and get even further ahead (last year around this time I had nearly 80k (sneeze sneeze sneeze . . . delayed sneeze) words. I really want to break at least 75k this year because I highly doubt I’ll reach the 100k I had last year (nose blowing). One of the biggest reasons why I feel I’m so far behind? It probably has something to do with the overflowing trashcan full of used Kleenex tissues. I don’t know what we were thinking Friday when we went shopping and didn’t pick up some DayQuil or Sudafed or anything that might alleviate the pressure and drainage. Seriously, how much @#$%ing snot can one head hold?! I’m never gonna get anywhere in the novel if I can’t think straight long enough to churn out an entire paragraph at a time. As it is, the past several chapters have been utter crap due to the sinuses constantly distracting me from what I’m doing, clouding my thoughts, and otherwise making me far too groggy to even want to stay up long enough to write for more than a half an hour at a time. It sucks. And I think it’s time for yet more Tylenol to try and at least stave off the pain for a little while longer.

(Two pills and half a soda later.) I have the whole day off today, but I’m not sure how I want to spend it. Part of me just wants to grind out some of the many crochet projects I’ve got started and simply watch old episodes of MacGyver all day long. Part of me wants to write all day since I have tons of time uninterrupted by work or clubs or whatever. Part of me wants to continue knitting to practice not screwing up so much. Then there’s the sinus-infection-induced part of me that simply wants to go back to bed and dream about handsome young lawyers throwing coffee mugs at each other and debating the finer points of spirit medium channeling in the courtroom. (Ah, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games, you have ensnared me yet again.) As much as I’d like to write, looking back on the past twenty pages or so that I’ve written, I’m thinking it would probably be best if I not continue on with the novel until my head clears up some. I don’t want to have to go back and fix fifty pages of crap just because my nose was dripping excessively. Besides, I can’t really think of a good place to take the story right now anyway, thank you, stuffed-up head. Looks like alternating between crocheting and knitting wins out. Besides, there’s lots of MacGyver to watch. (Blows nose.) Maybe I should also consider the option of cleaning up the growing pile of snot rags gathering around my desk. That can be option three after crocheting and knitting. For now, it’s tea time then my crafts and men with hockey hair get some love. Hope no one else out there is as miserably plagued by sinus troubles as I am.

    Off the subject:

Is the Labyrinth you are thinking about the one with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly?

    Another?:

Not that I know of. I checked Amazon.com (couldn't check from Ian's ads) and didn't find one.
